Easter Sunday....what are you eating?
« on: March 30, 2013, 12:02:46 am »
Easter doesn't have a typical menu like Christmas....so what's on your menu?

Keeping  it simple here, and firing up the BBQ.

honey soy chicken kebabs
Gourmet sausages
our home grown fat steaks with flavoured butters
Thermo18's yummy brown rice salad
Tandoori chicken salad (because my Mum doesn't eat BBQ)
and my Dad is making his Dutch potato salad (cos it's the best  ;))

Dessert will be Chookies Swedish ice cream cheese cake
Cupcakes of some description
.....and naturally there will be bubbles  :D

.........EAT CAKE!

Sounds amazing Maddy.
We are a bit different in our household. Our Easter celebration is with family for Good Friday lunch. We had prawn salad tasting spoons, Thai fish cakes, curry pasta salad, Vietnamese noodle salad, raspberry cheesecake and fresh from the oven hot cross buns. The boys received footy pyjamas from gran and insisted on wearing them for the rest of the day, including the trip home! Way too much food but great day.

Forgot to add, dad doesn't eat most of the above. He had sardine sandwiches instead. Ugh. Children were fascinated that they looked like REAL little fish. But no way they were going to try them :D

No traditions here ;) I'm cooking a big roast lamb leg tonight and since there are only three of us there will definitely be leftovers, so I will serve them cold with leftover curried pasta salad and a fresh garden salad tomorrow :)

We don't really have any traditions either as most of our working lives have been spent working with sheep at Easter, lambing. So its always been a big roast to keep everyone going, and not lamb!

This year no lambing and just the two of us so it will be a piece of beef from the freezer, roasted with Yorkshire puddings etc. Chookies choc delight for dessert, so easy and popular.

We had fish yesterday, that is traditional for Good Friday. It always used to be fish pie but DH doesn't like it so it was fried instead. If he is ever away and the young are here we often have fish pie for supper as the rest of us love it.

Good idea for a thread Maddy. The Dutch potato sounds good, any chance of the recipe?

Wish I could give you a straight answer DJ, but his ingredients & quantities keep changing when I ask  :-)) I know this is a deliberate move, as he's pretty competitive when it comes to food!....if I made a dish that trumped his....there would be a very dark cloud I can tell you   :P
Silly, isn't it?!

Sounds good H.  :)

We are having roast beef and all the usual roast trimmings. I might make Tenina's Rhubarb mousse for dessert.

Den, the rhubarb mousse is lovely.

We don't really celebrate Easter that much. MIL does but she celebrates orthodox Easter and because she has dementia she is very confused as to when it is.  (May 5) this year. My family are all spread between heaven and Canberra. We aren't really religious either.

Happy Easter everyone one.
