Cross stitch help please
« on: April 18, 2013, 01:58:54 am »
Hi friends. I'm not really sure if I should even ask this on the forum. If you think not report me to Cookie1 and she will remove it.  ;) ;) ;)

I have decided to do some cross stitch bookmarks for the Model A National Meet in 2014. I have bought the cloth but am at a loss where to find very simple, small cross stitch patterns to stitch onto them. I want it to be small as I'd like to do as many as I can, and I need to follow a graph or pattern or whatever. I've had a bit of a look on line and have found a few simple Christmas ones but that is all. I thought of doing letters, but it is hard to know what letters would be popular and I don't want to be left with any.

I have 18 months to do them and would like to start up at Monkey Mia. That will get me started.
Thanks.   :-* :-*

I had a quick look too cookie & if you google "counted cross stitch bookmark patterns" you'll find heaps. Here's a simple one that might suit....
http://crossstitch.about.com/od/freecrossstitchpattern1/ig/Bookmark-Cross-Stitch-Charts/My-Book-Bookmark-Chart.htm

Maybe you could substitute the words 'My Book' with 'Model A'! (I was a cross stitch junkie in my younger days, no time anymore sadly)

Thanks so much. I have been to Spotlight   I got the material there but they didn't have any patterns.
Deedub I am so dumb I never thought to include the word 'bookmark'' in the google search, I didn't really think it would help.

Michele I think there is a craft show on while we are in Monkey Mia, and then another one in November or so.

Thank you all, I really appreciate it. Ill post a photo of the first one when I finish it.

Deedub I have just had a good look at that site and I'm sure I will be able to get heaps from there and with some Christmas designs it will be plenty. I can always make 2 or 3 of the same. Thanks heaps.

Hi Cookie - If you google  "free printable cross stitch patterns"  you'll come up with heaps . . . where it indicates "Images for . ." (on my screen it shows the last two - baby feet - and an elephant -  open that and you'll be surprised at how many there are.  Click on the ones you like, copy and save on say word . . and print . .

Also here . . .

Cookie, I have a pattern sheet that I used designs from  to make a band to fit around my Dad's 80th birthday cake.  It has mostly country things on it like tractor, horse & plough, cows, ducks, frogs, apple trees etc.  I can scan and send it if you want.  I have also found alphabets but they are fairly large.

I used to do loads of cross stitch a few years ago and I'll see if I can find my old books for you, but probably not able to track them down for a week or so if that's OK.

Marie that would be lovely thank you. We have people coming from all over Australia to the run so anything at all will be lovely.

Marina I am looking for small things so if you have anything that would be suitable, thanks.

I'll have to put a link to the forum in my thankyous for these.

No thanks Jeninwa I have heaps and heaps of threads. I did a lot of embroidery in my younger days. No tv as I grew up and I sewed as I listened to cricket and footy on the crackly radio. I did live in the bush though.

Cookie, my DD does cross stitch and she sources her patterns from the internet and the attached store in Victoria Park.  Good luck!
