Recommendations for a good slow cooker recipe book?
« on: June 12, 2013, 03:39:48 am »
Can anyone recommend a good slow cooker recipe book?   We are not getting the best use out of our slow cooker, and I would love a new cookbook  ;)  ;)   :-))

I have Sally Wise's 2 slow cooker books. They are not fancy meals but great for everyday use. I see they have just been released as one book.. They are not at,all glamorous though.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

You could try somewhere online like this, Karen . . .

http://www.crock-pot.com/recipes.aspx

(had suggested another one, but when I double checked it was more for slow cooking, rather than slow cooker . . .)

Karen,  I have several.  you have to be careful as some such as Conrad Gallagher's One Pot Wonders,  are for different sort of pots.  However ,  that said his recipes are very nice and most can be adapted to a crock pot.
There is also ,The one Pot and Clay Pot cookbook by jenni Fleetwood,  same issues,  and Let it simmer by Sean Moran ,also same issues.  Also Slow Cooking,  Joanne Glenn,  same.
If you don't want to fiddle with recipes then i think Sally Wise would be best,  just add some bits to tart them up as the recipes are very plain,  or have a look at the WW one.

I have the Sally wise and WW. The WW is OK, I prefer Sally Wise and the one I really love is Margaret Fulton's crockpot book that mum was going to get rid of - an orange hard cover book. You could pick one up at your local op shop for $1 - $2.

I like to find recipes on the net - plenty of sites out there for slow cooker meals.  I have started a manila folder and just place my print outs in there. I tear out any recipe from a magazine that is for a s/c and place it in the folder as well rather than having to search through magazines.  I can spend hours browsing through websites to find something different and easy. I rarely cook anything though, just love looking  :D

Thank you everyone!  I will keep an eye out for those books (especially the Margaret Fulton one) and certainly check out the websites.

I have both Sally Wise slow cooker books, Margaret Fulton and WW and love all. Another one I have and like is by Allyson Gofton a kiwi cook and would  definately recommend it.  :)

Thanks for the links Judy.

I've had a lovely browse through the recipes and am making a curried chicken recipe for dinner tonight from one of the sites.

It's the lifestyle one GF and it's Nigella Lawson's recipe. I'm making it now and will post a photo when it is in the slow cooker.

Judy, thank you for the links :)
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.
