Essential oils for washing powder
«
on:

I would like to try making some of the laundry powder but I'm one of the people that likes a bit of scent in mine. Is there a certain type of oil that should be used? I've never tried anything like this before. Thanks

you could use eucalyptus or any essential oil, not a fragrant oil.

That is where I am confused too. I should probably stick to unscented

I think an essential oil is real (natural) where fragrant oils are fake (man made, synthetic etc), but I'm no expert.

I think Katie is right - I am sure this was discussed a long time ago and the fragrant oils don't last as long as essential oils either. MJ can undoubtedly clarify that for us, though.

Sorry, I am so slack.
essential oils are natural and pure, with healing benefits.
Eg, lavender is relaxing, (great for when you need to sleep)
ecalyptus is great for bites.
Fragerant oils are just perfume, fake..

EO are naturally derived from plants.
FO are chemically enhanced and therefore more stable and last longer than EO.
I only use EO in my soaps, however I know MJ uses both. Her knowledge is vast on this subject but I guess she must be busy right now.
Hope this helps.
There are books on aromatherapy that explain more about EO and their individual properties.

I put a few drops of Eucalyptus Oil (Bosisto's from the supermarket) into my scoop of washing powder. When I'm hanging out the washing it reminds me of rain and the smell of gum trees, but I think it may also help to kill dust mites (
not sure tho)

I've tried it with lavender, orange and lemon/lime essential oils separately
Came out GREAT!
I can already see how much money this will save, but it works, it cleans...and this from a newbie!
Cheers! Joanne
