your opinion on how to learn and plan please
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:20:08 am »
G'day my name is peter and yesterday the wife and i bought a Thermomix . We will call him Maxi - the wife is a little unsure but I love to cook so for a start its my new toy.

Appreciate what a great machine it is and would love to learn how to get the best from it as well .

Was wondering if for a newboy it would be best to work through the Every Day Cook Book and see just what we like best for a start and thought that a weekly menu could comprise of a name and page number for each recipe selected and then a shopping list could be constructed.

We have downloaded the App but it has very limited recipes and we cannot print out the shopping list either but if we do the above in Excel we can

would value your opinion and are there any recipes in the cook book that need adjusting

regards

peter

We have lists of reviews of recipes from all the cookbooks Peter, you will find the topic on the home page.  The new EDC has it's own list of reviews http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=13286.0  but it's not a long list due to the fact the book isn't that old and most of us have had our machines for so long that we rarely cook from that book.  You'll find a lot more reviews of the original EDC though but because HO have tweaked the recipes (and added more) to this new edition, it would certainly pay to check our list to see what, if anything, needs adjusting.

I would also have a look at the pictures in What are you cooking today or What's for Dinner, What's for lunch in the Chit chat section.  See what others have been cooking, often they will give you a link to the recipe here on the forum or from someone's blog.  Most of the recipes on the forum will have a photo, if not by the poster then someone else who has cooked it may have posted one. Spend some time checking out our recipes, you know what you like to eat and the pictures may convince you to try something a little different to meat and 3 veg which I know is the norm for you.

The all in one section is where you will find steamed sausages, chicken or fish in the varoma and cooking vegies at the same time - this is probably the closest you will get to meat and 3 veg.

Hi Peter, there is a thread on here with reviews and tweaks of pretty much all the EDC recipes - just have a browse in the recipe book review section. I don't have the new EDC but I know a number of recipes in the old one needed adjusting, so this would be a good place to start.
I'm pretty hopeless at planning myself, but I know some of our members use Paprika which also has a shopping list.
Congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the forum! This a great resource for beginners and old hands alike, so if you have any questions, fire away.

We all tend to think alike Deb but as long as Peter knows he can ask questions and have them answered, he is on a winner with this forum.

Peter it will take you a while to find your way round the thermomix. Judy has given you perfect advice. Look through the forum and find photos of food you like, read all about it and then if it suits you go ahead and cook it.
As has been said, please feel free to ask anything at any time on the forum. Helpers are always on line.

I can't add anything more to the above except to reiterate that you scroll through the various thread indices, find something you like the sound of, read the thread, look at the photos and dive straight in.  CP's list is great and everything on it is well tried and tested, it would be hard to go wrong.

Most of all, have fun and enjoy your new TMX.

Hi and welcome. I used the big oven app and have found more lately I'm cooking from recipe books/ forum etc. I just enter the information in motes for each day Ie book and page number and create a shopping list in the app as I plan each meal. It works for us. DH takes his phone and does the grocery shopping. I would also suggest going to the monthly cooking class available in your area. The more you use it the easier it is. Good luck!
