How are our North Island NZ members?
« on: January 20, 2014, 09:24:45 pm »
Just saw that there was an earthquake in lower North Island of NZ. Hope you are OK. Apparently no one was injured.

A huge eagle suspended from the ceiling at Wellington Airport has come down and there is damage to properties.

Stay safe. Especially thinking of you Jo.

Echo Mich here. Hope the property damage is minimal and that everyone is ok.... Can't imagine how terrifying an earthquake of that magnitude would be.....

Yes, a bit shaky!  We were at my niece's 4yr old birthday party so that was interesting. No damage or issues here. My mum and sister (horowhenua and manawatu regions) had a few things fall off shelves etc, nothing too nasty for them, although I have seen pics of damaged buildings and roads etc.

Just checking supplies and updating water stocks. :)
Quite glad it was in holiday time as kids much less freaked after this one than six months ago. That one hit when ds was in school assembly and mass hysteria took hold there.
Haven't felt as many aftershocks here either.

I'm glad all is ok Jo. I wasn't sure if you were near the Wellington area at all.

We were comparing photos of the beautiful cathedral in Christchurch that we took and now. So sad. Earthquakes are not fun in any way.

Good that you and family are fine Jo (Jo lives across the harbour from Wellington!).  Also checked with my family and they are all OK too.  Apparently it went on for a while ... it's the not knowing how long an earthquake will last that makes them even scarier than they already are.

Yup, it sure went on for a while...

Yes Cookie, my place is in Petone on the other side of the harbour from Welly city. In the tsunami zone!  Other than that, a wonderful place to live  ;)

Good to hear that our NZ contingent is AOK. DH's family is mainly in the south island. Family in the North just seem to have minor damage.
