Rice not cooking consistently
«

I always cook rice the same way in the TM. 400g rice, wash it well. 1 L water. Rice in basket. Varoma temp, 16 mins, speed 4.
Unfortunately, the rice has become unreliable lately. It is not always fully cooked, and I had to add more time to the cooking. Usually an extra 5 mins. Today my extra 5 mins didn't work. The rice was still a bit hard
Not sure if anyone has encountered the same issue.

What type of rice are you using? Did you get a new variety or brand?

Are you making sure that the measuring cup is on? My rice takes longer in the Winter than in the Summer as our water temperature is REALLY cold in the Winter.
We always use Basmati rice and cook for between 20 and 23 minutes.

If I steam rice in TMX it is for 22 minutes. We like it soft.

It could be your batch of rice BZB, have you tried stirring it halfway through.

I sure hope it's the rice, and not my TM Judy. Will try stirring. My usual method used to give me perfect rice ALL the time
Laura, I cook basmati.

We use basmati, sp 4 on varoma for 18mins. I did read a hint the other week on Quirky's blog to do a couple of seconds on sp 5 to ensure the water is washed through the rice prior to setting the time and heat.

My rice is cooking perfectly again. Phew!
Still the same batch of basmati. Cooked 400g for 20 mins. First 5 mins at speed 5, then dropped to speed 4.

300 - 350g is usually enough if I'm cooking for about 3-4 people. I cut it down to 200g if only cooking for 1 person (with some leftovers for the following day). Has always been perfect, but maybe it differs between brands?
