Review Hearty lamb and bean hotpot - p 120 Quirky Cooking

We had this for dinner last night and it was absolutely amazing, and even better today for lunch! Lamb is so tender it melts in your mouth. I couldn't find any yellow squash in my area, so used butternut pumpkin in its place and it was beautiful. Cooked it for about 5 minutes little longer at step 4 (to account for the pumpkin that I had added to the jug). Added cracked pepper to taste. Quite runny when first cooked but soon thickens up, and was much thicker when I checked it this morning.
This is definitely a favourite already - 5/5!

I made this tonight for dinner and agree it's a winner. It's easy to make & other than leaving the squash out as we didn't have any I followed the recipe. We had it with home made bread & can see this being a great dish to have in winter.

I'm wondering what I did wrong as I actually found this to be rather bland - herby & hearty, but definitely lacking in flavour .. In the end I added 'this and that' from the pantry - sorry I can't recall exactly what, though I know a good few Tbs of ABD (sweet soy sauce) went in .. Likewise a 1/4cup of flour to help thicken the liquid ..

We enjoyed this. I did use casserole beef though instead of the lamb!! I did cook it longer and it was really nice. It was lovely and thick but I think that was because the sweet potato disintegrated and thickened it up.

when you add the first can of beans to the jug they tend to break down and become very thick, as does the potato. No need to add any flour to mine as ithe sauce consistency was perfect. Its funny, I wonder if our ideas of tasty/bland are the same or whether yours really was bland. The addition of the flour may have given it a blandness perhaps?

Yes I wonder too .. I didn't find the beans broke down too much, but I cooked my own instead of using a can so they would have been firmer to start with ..
The flour isn't the culprit either as it was the last thing I added after I'd made additions to boost/improve flavour .. I mixed it directly in once in the serving pot and let it sit for 5-10min before we ate ..
