Not quite a newbie - still coveting

Hi, I came across a rave review for the Thermomix on line, and now it is at the top of my wish list.  I love to cook and from everything I've read on the forum, it's a wonderful addition to anyone's kitchen.  I'm hoping that some of the U.S. members can give me some tips on where to buy one and where they have to be sent for servicing.  Thanks, DJ (Ga_Junkman)

Hi DJ, I do believe they have been ordering them through the Canadian website, I am sure there is a link on here somewhere...I will see if I can find it for you. As for servicing the machine doesn't need it!!!  It is only if there is a problem with it and the return rate worldwide is 0.2% - considering the amount of machines that are sold in Europe that is a tiny amount.

Some of the more senior demonstrators and users that have had their machines for longer still may be able to give you more information.

Thank you, it's hard to believe that they are not being distributed widely in the U.S. as convenience crazy as we are.  I am glad to hear they are very reliable - I think when I read the on-line manual (yes, I'm one of those weird people that actually read manuals) it mentioned a seal that should be replaced every couple of years which is why I wondered about parts and service.  DJ (GA_Junkman)

Hi and welcome DJ - yes it is a bit weird to read the manual, especially before even ordering one You certainly know something I wasn't aware of - ie replacing some seal after 2 years.  Must check it out myself if I can drag myself away from the forum or my TMX. How many of us have even had our machines for 2 years or more and have you replaced this seal?

mine started to leak just a little in the demo i did last weekend  great timing! but i think i must have had too much water in the bowl as it hasn't happened since.  apparently the 2 years is approximate as it depends on how much you've used your machine

I replaced my seal but it had had a small split in it from the word go.  I only know this because when I was using another one & cleaning it the water came out the sides.  Mine was replaced under warranty.  If it aint broke dont fix it is my approach.

This is very interesting.  Mine has always leaked a little right from the word go.  It doesn't matter how much liquid is in it or how many times I press the seal on tightly (and hear it clicking).  I just thought it was a little design fault.  So is the seal covered under warrenty (I've only had my machine for a couple of months)?

So it is the seal on the lid we are talking about.  I thought maybe it was the little one on the blades - that is one seal you wouldn't want to leak. I haven't had time to read the manual yet - besides that I hate reading manuals

Welcome junkman - don't feel bad - Thomas Keller only ordered his machines after seeing them on a visit here to Australia.  So, if the top US chef doesn't know about them ....

Here are the 3 Canadian sites I have found the 1st is Quebec; the 2nd is Vancouver; the third is Toronto. I order from Quebec only because they were the first to answer my email. The one in Vancouver was the most helpful even though I had already bought one. They have several cookbooks available. I got the Australian Cookbook with mine. But there is a North American available from Vancouver. I got mine the end of June and love it.
