Great photos Cookie, they remind me of our trip to the west.

Thanks. We went out to Lake Ballard today. There are 51 statues out there on the actual lake. We also walked the entire 3 blocks of the Main Street here in Menzies and it took us all morning! Definitely a holiday. Tomorrow we move on to Laverton.

We are in Laverton tonight. Stopped at a couple of old places today. One was Niagara. They built a dam there but unfortunately by the time the dam was built the gold had run out. It's a lovely spot. Another was Kookynie. It is pretty well a ghost town now too, although the hotel is still operating and has its own doorman, a horse named Willie.

I hope he lets people into the hotel cookie. Are there any people at these places you're visiting?

No Judy, generally they are all ghost towns, just the remains of old buildings. Kookynie was an exception. There was a sour man at the pub, and someone else living in some of the old shops.
Apparently the horse doesn't let people in, we met some people in Menzies and they had to knock on the window and someone came and pushed the horse out of the way.

We came on to Leonora today. Passed a nickel and cobalt mine on the way. We had bitumen for today. After we set the van up we went to a Coles express ( in Leonora of all places) and bought some bread and milk. Oh yuk, the bread was awful. It was Coles bread as that was all they had. We found it a little better toasted.
We visited Gwalia for the rest of the day. An amazing place. There is a gold mine there that is operating, but a tiny bit of the old town has been restored. We spent about 4 hours walking round it.
Tomorrow we head back on to dirt roads and unrestored ghost towns. http://gwalia.org.au/
