Wagon Wheel Slice
«
on:
July 23, 2014, 06:44:48 am »
I have a recipe for a Wagon Wheel Slice, which has been converted to the TM, and I have made it and it gets the "thumbs up" from hubby who LOVES wagon wheels (but I refuse to buy them...especially after reading the ingredients list!)
Anyway - I cannot for the life of me remember where I got the recipe from, was wondering if anyone posted it in here?
I just want to say - thank you
for a yummy slice.
If it didn't come from here I'll post the recipe.

Judy - you are a legend, thank you
It is worth making this slice. I cut the sugar in the base back by more than half seeing as I had bought strawb jam, then the marshmallows and chocolate.
No photos sorry, the family have devoured it! But it did look like the picture on the recipe
Did I mention that Judy is wonderful and she knows where to find EVERYTHING?!

Donna Hay had a recipe for home made wagon wheels a few months ago, it might have been in the chocolate edition. .. they were really good, albeit a little fiddly...slice would be dangerously convenient.

I am going to make these this weekend (as soon as we finish the choc slice we already have). DH loves wagon wheels which are not readily available here, so he will be one happy man.

I made this last night before heading to basketball so it hasnt been fully taste tested but DS said it was great but the base was to cumbly which i did notice when i was cutting it. Nikkit was yours like that? any ideas to make it less crumbly?

I'm going to pretend that Judy didn't post the link for this, it looks so nice.

Wonder - yes mine was a bit crumbly now that you mention it - and I think a wee bit thick too. But I may not have pressed it down hard enough into the tin.
Maybe bake it a bit less in the first cook, so it doesn't dry out quite so much?
Darn...looks like I'll have to make it again and test out my theory

I made this last night and it is a hit!
I had to use nearly a whole pack of marshmallows to get pretty good coverage, so maybe my slice tin was a bit bigger than it should have been. The slice base isn't crumbly though -maybe thinner works better? I did press down pretty firmly, and had also mixed it longer than the recipe stated until the base dough was coming together (was still very floury/dry after the time in the recipe), if that makes a difference.
It's a good thing I am taking most of it to an afternoon tea today as it is far too delicious!
