Automated yoghurt question
« on: November 22, 2014, 09:40:48 pm »
Hi

I used the automated yoghurt option last night for the first time.   It seemed to have worked and is now chilling in the fridge.   My only concern is that I keep reading you need to heat the milk to 90 first.  The automated recipe does not do this.  Is the yoghurt ok to eat without heating manually to 90?

Don't want to make the family sick.

I ate all the lot I made and I was ok. I'm sure others will be able to give advice too.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

My guess is that heating milk to 90 then cooling it would pasturize it and make it safer. If you use already pasturized milk maybe it's Ok. But I am not sure. I always heat mine to 80 degrees then cool to 37 degrees then add culture. It never fails.
