Large birthday cake suggestions
«

Hello everyone; I am wondering what cake to make for a men's group birthday (94) morning tea. Any suggestions. I have thought of the carrot cake from EDC but haven't made it so wondered how big it comes out. I probably need 25 serves. TIA

Troupie I don't think this would feed 25 but perhaps you could make 2or serve small slices. Or maybe make lots of cup cakes from it and everyone could have a cupcake.
Oops, I forgot to put in the 'this'

You could try Kimmyh's
boiled fruit cake
- it is very easy and tastes great. Once again, feeding 25 could push it a bit. Do you have time for a practice run?

How about 30 small cream puffs. Build a pyramid. They could be filled with cream and chocolate sauce poured I over.

Susan, when I was in Melbourne my DIL made 2x Bimby chocolate cake in 2 separate lots, too much for 1 mix. She cooked it in a 12 inch square tin. It took exactly 1 hour in a FF oven. It was approx 2 1/2 inches deep.

That's a good idea Katj; having two jugs is good when doing the double mixture that way.

The Bimby cake recipe is certainly one of the best. Go for it.
Why I suggested the cream puffs is that the last school that I worked at, the headmaster turned 50. I ordered one of these cakes from Brunetties in Lygon Street. It comprised 200 balls as this was the number on the staff. Everyone got a small cream puff. It looked spectacular.

Hope this isn't too late. My moist carrot cake

when cooked in a large rectangle baking type dish (think Lamingtons pan?) cuts up into lots of pieces. It might go close to serving 25.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions; I tried the Bimby cake and it was a bit too dense but was nice with some cream so I put it in the freezer for another time and ended up making 2 pineapple fruit cakes and pushed them together, used the cream cheese frosting and put some train tracks and a little train on top. It was for a member of the model engineering club who turned 94; well received by all. Going to try your carrot cake next Kimmyh.

I'm glad it went well troupie. Men seem to love fruit cakes. I'm sure he was thrilled.
