Char Siu Pork in Pressure Cooker
« on: August 06, 2015, 03:16:18 am »
CHINESE 5 SPICE POWDER
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon fennel seed
1 teaspoon ground star anise
1 teaspoon szechuan peppercorns

Put all ingredients in TM and blitz into a powder

CHAR SIU SAUCE
1⁄3 cup hoisin sauce
1⁄4 cup honey
1/4 cup dark soy sauce
3 tbs dry sherry
1 tsp chinese 5 spice powder

Mix together and rub all over pork

I used about 2.2kg pork shoulder

Marinate for 4 hours or overnight

Add 3/4cup chicken stock to pressure cooker

Place pork, turn on and set to high pressure
Cook for 80 minutes, release pressure
Take out it should fall apart
Pull apart mix it back in with all the sauce and
Cook again on high for 3 minutes to ensure the flavour is nicely through the meat

Freeze left over sauce to start again next time this gives you a good stock base

This would also be good in a slow cooker or a slow cooked in the oven.

Yum Halex, we have pulled pork often, that would make a nice change.
Thanks for sharing

Thank you, we love pork in any form. I wanted a change from the regular pulled pork or the liquid smoked one, so I mixed a few recipes together and thought this would be good in the pc and yes it is. I try and freeze as much of the pulled meat from anything we cook for pizzas, you get the best pizzas:)

Yes Hally pulled pork is divine on pizzas. Thanks for the recipe, I'm keen to try it in the oven as don't have either of the other machines.

I made this on the weekend Hally. I slow cooked it in my casserole dish in the oven 170c for 4 hours and served it with warm roast potato salad and deliciously different Brussels sprouts. Loved the flavour. Think it's my new favourite pulled pork recipe. Thanks for sharing.

I can only think of sliders, what else do you have pulled pork with?

I've not made pulled pork but I have done beef CP.  It freezes well and can be cooked in advance then reheated when needed.
I've made a note on my recipe to use in

Tacos
Quesadillas with roasted red capsicum and caramelised onions
Toastie with cheese
On pizzas
I have added a little bit more passata to the sauce it was cooked in then topped it with mashed potatoes for pot pies.

So glad you liked it Kimmy.

CP the pork is great for pizzas, tacos, quesadillas, toasted sandwiches, on jacket potatoes, it goes with most things. Hope you try it and enjoy it.
