Holiday in Tasmania
« on: January 12, 2016, 10:14:23 pm »
Happyyy New Year everybody!

I have come back from a holiday but now feel like going on another.
Next month, it is our 8th wedding anniversary and was planning a holiday in Tasmania.
But I havent been there before and thought would ask the experts here ;)

Does anyone live in Tas or any suggestions of best places to visit.

I have a 2 year old so please suggest kid friendly places and also thinking of a 3 day trip, dont think it will be enough but thats all the leave I can afford to take after 5 weeks of holiday :D

I am checking online but going crazy with so much information.. Any suggestion would be of great help, Thanks :)

Enjoy your Tasmanian holiday, Thermilover.  There was a Forum Fest there a year or so ago so I am sure you will get plenty of helpful replies to your query from those who were there.

Hobart's Salamanca Place is lovely. I enjoyed Launceston too. There is a pub in Longreach that used to have a picture of my grandfather up, as he died as a result of a racing car accident in Simmons Plains in 1967. I want to get back there to show my children.

The Salamanca Markets are good. A drive up to Mount Wellington is fun. I don't know if you can still visit the Cadbury factory. Port Arthur is another place lots of people like to visit.
What part of Tasmania are you planning to go Thermilover?

A little change in plan :D
Postponed our plans to March so that we can have a little longer holiday, probably around 4-5 days.
Not sure of what places to visit, but thinking of starting with flying to Hobart, stay there for a day or two and then travel.
But when I check online, there are so many suggestions that it is getting confusing :)

Visit to the Cadbury factory would be good Cookie, I will check if they are still open for visitors.. I grew up watching Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and dreamed about one, I know this wont be anywhere close to it  :-)) but there is nothing wrong in dreaming!

I loved Cradle Mountain; I was there in late October and there are lots of lovely places to see so grab a heap of brochures and take your pick. We stayed at Zero Davey in Hobart and the Sebel in Launceston; both were apartment style and very nice. Have a wonderful time, its a great place.

Our holiday plan is now in place and I am already getting excited, cant wait to visit TAS in March.
We will be visiting Hobart, Coles Bay and Launceston.

Thinking of Salamanca Markets, Anvers Chocolate and Christmas Hills Raspberry farm, does anyone have any other suggestions?
Especially not sure about places near Coles Bay..

Google the place names and I'm sure that will give you some lovely ideas.

Enjoy your trip Thermilover.

I'm reading all this with interest as we are planning on going to Tassie next year for the boat festival in Hobart and then touring.
