Chia Jam

This jam is so easy to make, with no added sugar it has a natural rich berry taste and the goodness of chia seeds. I don't add sugar but this recipe is very adaptable to suit all tastes so a sweetener could be added if desired:

INGREDIENTS

400g frozen berries of choice
2 tbsp (30g) chia seeds

METHOD

Add frozen berries to Thermomix : 3 sec, speed 8

Add chia seeds: 100°, 10 min, speed 1

Add to jar/s, refrigerate

Wow, sounds and looks great! I'd love to know how the freezing goes with it. Also, how long does it keep in the jars for?

This sounds great.  I think I would find it a bit sour with berries but it would be easy to stir in some honey or maple syrup.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Speaking of maple syrup, do you all keep your opened bottle in the fridge?  I just had a look at mine, almost a full bottle in the pantry and it had white floaty things in it.  I see on the bottle it should be kept in the fridge but I never have and this is the first time this has happened.

I have never kept my Maple Syrup in the fridge Judy.They are not sugar crystals?

I always keep my Maple syrup in fridge after one bottle grew mould. 
This recipe does freeze well. I think I would add Xylitol to sweetened it a bit.

Funny you should bring that up Judy. I noticed mine had white floaters in it, then saw that I should have kept it in the fridge. I will do from now on. I'd never noticed it before.

Blackwood - I've had success with storage in the fridge for about 2 weeks

Cookie - I don't find it sour but more like a stewed fruit taste, I think the cooking gets rid of the tangy taste of the berries but this recipe would definitely would work with added sweetener too

Chookie - great to hear this would freeze well ! I'd much rather do that with my second jar. Cant wait to try it when I finish jar number 1.

Judy - strange about the maple syrup... I only use raw honey, even up here in the tropics it's fine in the pantry perhaps as it's a natural anti-bacterial food, but maple syrup might be more prone to mould perhaps?

Hi Judy, yes I do keep my Maple syrup in the fridge. Even here in fairly mild Melbourne, some friends have had mould grow in their jars when kept in the pantry :(

Hopefully yours isn't mould though!

I've just joined Costco recently and they have a pure maple syrup which is a really good price. I've just finished my first bottle!

It had to be mold blackwood so I tossed it, almost a full bottle. This is the first time it's ever happened to me and I've had plenty of bottles before.  I'll pick up a bottle from Costco on Wednesday.

Maple syrup comes in different strengths. Even the real one bought from the Supermarket is too expensive to waste. I look for it when on special as I use it to make my Granola.

I buy Queens sugar free maple syrup (not real maple syrup) for use by the kids, and for myself when I'm trying to minimise my sugar. I have assumed that all genuine maple syrup was all the same, except for its origin.
