Another newbie here
« on: September 09, 2009, 04:56:11 pm »
I got my thermomix on Saturday.

I thought I would only try the things in the recipe book first.

On Sunday we made the pumpkin soup - I had to cook it for a lot longer than what it said, it kinda tasted raw after the quoted time.

And on Tuesday we had the chicken and cashews which was great.

I had a meeting at work tonight and something else planned on Monday, so not sure what to make for Thursday night!!

Hmmm.... any suggestions?

Welcome - sure to have fun.

The Asian Fish is the first dish I made - love that you get the rice and fish cooked at the same time.

There are a few recipes here - check some of the threads in Chit Chat about what others have cooked fisrt up.

Hi lorywhol, welcome to the forum.  Check out the recipes on the forum, there are some beauties there - look especially for those with reviews to get some sort of idea what others thought of the recipe and the changes they may have made to suit their tastes.  Have fun with your new friend.

Welcome to both of you. I find that I only need to add 1 teaspoonTM stock for every cup of water (or 250ml)
I had a few disastrously salty soups and risottos too.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Hi Lorywhol and welcome  ;D I only cooked from the book when I first got my TMX (I had it for 2 months before I joined this forum) and it helped my understand my machine. Now I think with the support from this forum I would just jump straight in but that could be as I am now comfortable with my machine  ??? ??? ??? Each to their own comfortable way of using I think, as long as you are using it!!

Hi Lorywhol,
I got my machine on Tuesday-it's still exciting for me.  I've had to cut back on my cooking because we cant eat it fast enough and the fridge is full!

I wanted to make the Red Thai Curry the other night but didn't have all the ingredients to make the Red Curry Paste, so I just improvised with some curry paste i already had.  I dont think you can go far wrong if you just improvise in 'a little bit of this a little bit of that' sort of way.

One thing-dont make the mistake of taste testing the vegetable stock concentrate.  Ber Kerk!

For tonight: Chilli Con Carne.  I've got some sour cream and corn chips to have with it, so the kids will think it's junk food.  Last night I stumbled through the door just after 6 with 4 hungry kids and less than an hour later we were all eating pizza (with leftovers in the fridge).  It would have taken longer than that if I'd rung up for home delivery.

Have fun!
