Tomato Sauce (Ketchup) - with photos

I like to try and get the over-ripe tomatoes (preferably vine-ripened) that are marked down at the vege/grocery store, as they're the tastiest.  Unless of course you grow your own... as they say, "there's just two things that money can't buy - true love, and home-grown tomatoes!!"

hey jo, to me liquid smoke is the taste of bbq sauce (oh i love the stuff!!) but do you know much about it? is it acutally healthy or soemthing that is now considered not so? and do you know where it can be bought here, i've never seen it in australia.

Brazen, you can order from here.  I'd seen it on their website. I buy my sausage skins from them.

ok so I make BBQ which my family adores but DH & I prefer the smokey BBQ sauce....if I were to add some liquid smoke would that give the flavour of smokey BBQ sauce?? I know NOTHING about liquid smoke lol

...I have a BIG sticker on the front of the bottle saying 'Mum's DELICIOUS Tomato Sauce' - I'm hoping it will enter his subconcious and make him think mine is more delicious! lol

That is a really great idea - I love the stuff too, specially mesquite smoke flavour... but I'm not sure if it's any good for you. 
I have some, because my Texan parents always bring some back when they go home for a visit.

I do think my BBQ sauce needs tweaking, so I'll try the smoke next time - thanks!

Have posted the link below    Warren's is the one underneath this one. His was a little too much for DS4. This one is very much like the one I used to buy. I would probably use Warren's for a grown up version for ourselves and maybe also try and get it a touch smokey in flavour (how ever I would do that lol)

I made another batch of sauce today, and this time I added cayenne pepper and a tblspn or so of mesquite 'liquid smoke' - it's really yummy!  Also used a bit more tomato paste and a bit less tomatoes (ran out) and it's really red and rich. 

The liquid smoke is 'colgin' brand - contains water, natural mesquite smoke flavour, vinegar, molasses & caramel colour.  After hearing Cyndi talk on colours and flavours, I'm thinking it may not be too healthy...  but I only used a little... I'll have to find out for sure though.

Thanks Jo. I freeze my excess (home grown) tomatoes whole and I still have a couple of bags left so this will be perfect as Miss 3 has suddenly turned off my recipe and only wants that red rubbish in the bottle from the supermarket    (thanks to daycare...) will try this one as an alternative.

Faffa70 - Can you confirm which recipe you prefer?  Warren's looks like the one called "BOCCI'S BBQ SAUCE" not Best Ever BBQ Sauce.  I'm trying to decide which recipe to make, so using public opinion as a guide.  I'm after a good Family BBQ Sauce recipe for on sausages, meatloaf, pies etc.

I've just made this sauce of Jo's - but without the tomato paste. Couldn't find it when I needed it, so I winged it.  Tastes fine without it!
