How to Summary
« on: September 18, 2009, 02:40:13 am »
It would be good to have a topic just devoted to answers on "How to" for a quick easy guide when converting recipes
eg.

Cream Butter & Sugar:
Browning spices:
Brown flour:
Chop a garlic clove:
Saute onions:
Caremellise onions:
Seal Meat:
Simmer Meat: (what temp for how long - is it the same time as stove top?)

(much the same as the Acronyms list where the answers are at the top, and you don't have to scroll through all the pages)

Err, I'm confused.

Are the lines in the first post supposed to be hyperlinked to instructions for each one? If so, does that mean no one has done any How-To's yet? Looks like a good idea if I understand correctly.

Russell.

Looks like this thread didn't end up going anywhere Russell.  That happens sometimes but bumping, as you have done, may bring some more responses.

OK well, I guess I'll try and see what I can find. I'm not sure some of these should be under the tips thread though, so maybe should be moved :-

Creaming butter & sugar
Creaming egg yolks & sugar
Make Butter
Reheat Food
Clean off burnt on food
Cleaning under the blade
Peel Garlic
Peel Garlic - Video
Peel Onions
Convert Weight <-> Volume
Hand roll pasta
Convert Recipes
Whip egg whites
Weigh during cooking
Chop Meat
Chop small quantities

Is that along the lines of what we need?

Russell.

Umm, err, well. It was during my lunch hour.

I didn't index every thread, just those that seemed to have black & white answers, or were more general in nature than some of the specific things.

fundj if it is recipes you are converting try upping your speed by 1/2 to 1 more speed.  Sometimes using your butterfly as well will help, as it helps get the food moving off the bottom of the bowl.

If it is recipes from the EDC I have a customer who has similar problems and I think it has been mentioned on here somewhere as well that someone has/had the same problem...

Just found this thread.  It's no so long ago since it was last 'bumped' but I found there are quite a few links here that answer some of the questions that have been raised / discussed recently.

Having gone through all of the tips listed here, I now have another four pages of hints and tips printed out to insert into my recipe folder!
