Rescue recipe needed, please!!!
« on: October 02, 2009, 11:30:41 am »
Well, I was in the middle of ILB's chocolate coconut slice.  I'd softened the butter and then realised I didn't have all the ingredients (nothing like checking your cupboards first!).  So it was set to the side overnight.

Meanwhile, I made polenta for dinner in my other jug.  Well, we were both tired last night, and went to bed without clearing up.  Come this morning, I go to set the coconut slice going while I get breakfast.  I'd completely forgotten about the polenta.  I peered into the jug and saw yellow, like creamed butter and added sugar and flour, THEN realised I'd just added it on top of the polenta.  Tried to just tip it out and see if I could separate it - nope, not possible.  :-\ :'(

So, I have a bowl of polenta, flour and sugar.  I'm sure that I could whip up something creative with it rather than chuck it in the bin - but the brain is refusing to click into gear.  Any brilliant ideas, anyone????

Well I think I would just be too mad to be creative - and I would need to get some pleasure and that would be slamming it in the bin  :-))

Oh dear Caroline, what a predicament - what's that saying 'look before you leap' - in your case, 'taste before you leap' :P :P Hope you managed to save it.

Well, looking at the recipes linked by ILB was what I needed to kick start my brain (thanks ILB  :-*).  I was going to mix it all together with milk and some cinnamon, but then, having just finished miking her chocolate coconut slices in the CORRECT jug this time  :-)) I thought - why not skip the cinnamon and use the leftovers of the coconut slices for extra flavouring instead?  So that's what I've done, and it's cooking for a few minutes now.

The plan is to then let it set, then fry in butter (read - put in remoska with melted butter underneath and drizzled on top) and then serve with sweetened yogurt and berries.  I'll let you know how it was - the sneaky bit I just tasted was quite nice.  So fingers crossed

My mum used to make semolina porridge, let it cool, cut into small pieces, then do a proper panade and fry in hot oil. - Lovely lunch served with preserved cherries

Oooh - sounds lovely.  Maybe I'll adapt it to that instead!

I'm more basic - it would have just been heated and mixed and poured out to make a slice that can be fried - would be fine - you can add spices etc.

You have probably invented a new wonderful recipe. ;D
