Capsicum Jam
« on: October 11, 2009, 10:55:32 am »
Hi
I made this tonight and it's yummy.  Not perfect but yummy.  I got it from the Simple Savings website.

Ingredients:
 - i red capsicum roasted, skin removed (I used 1 whole plus a quarter of another)
 - 1/2C white vinegar
 - 1/2C sugar
 - 1/2 tsp paprika
 - 1/2 tsp chilli powder (almost too much for me, will decrease next time)

All in to TMX bowl, 100deg sp 1 for 15-30 minutes.  You just need to keep an eye on it and keep going for desired consistency.  When you get to the consistency you want, put in to a sterilised jar.

I ended up putting mine on Varoma temp and got distracted so its very thick and concentrated.  It's fine for the purpose I had in mind (on crackers with cream cheese).  If you wanted to serve it over a 'mound' of cream cheese it would be best a little runnier.

I put the capsicum in, in quarters, just as I'd roasted it.  I did give it a quick whiz on a higher speed at one point but it will go mushy and jammier anyway.

Enjoy!

It would be very nice in fried rice for a nasi goreng type dish.  It was very very easy.  Made about 1/3 of a cup.

That sounds divine!  And as you said, over philly cheese as a really easy dip instead of the traditional sweet chilli sauce.

Does sound nice - love capsicum relish - there is an English one that I used to buy that sounds like this - not overloaded with onions etc.

I made something similar a couple of days ago.  Thought it was missing something.
Chopped for 5 seconds on speed 4 and it was mushier than I wanted it to be.  Will have another go using your recipe as I didn't use paprika in mine. Think I will try cooking on reverse with less chopping.

This sounds tasty. I'm the only one in the family that eats this sort of thing so this recipe would be perfect for me-not too much.

I've just made this and it really tasty. I had to blitz my capsicum after 15 minutes as it wasn't really breaking up much. I then cooked it for 10 minutes on VAroma and it is perfect. I used 1/2 teaspoon sambal oelek instead of chilli powder.
DH bought a small leg of ham so it will be good to make sandwiches with that.

Great recipe.  I make one that is similar but mine is more of a sweet relish.

1.5 onions (quartered)
1.5 capsicums (quartered)
1.5 cups white sugar
1.5 cups white vinegar

Place the onion in TM for 3-5 secs on speed 7 then add all other ingredients into TM bowl and pulverise 3 secs speed 7 to get desired size.  Then cook 30-40 mins (keep an eye on it) Varoma speed SOFT.

Delicious served with sausages and meats or on sandwiches
