Hello from Sunny Spain
« on: October 26, 2009, 12:21:29 pm »
Hello everybody.  I have finally come out of the closet and joined the forum.  I have been interested in the Thermomix since seeing it at a friend's house and wanted to have a demonstration.  I live in Spain but my Spanish is not very good (yet).  I had my demonstration last week and am now the proud mother of a little Spanish Thermomix.  I didn't really understand much of the demo as the consultant speaks no English and the recipe book is also in Spanish, so I have been using my dictionary as well as the Thermomix!!

I am trying to source the TMX instructions and recipe books in English but have not received a response to my emails from either  UK Thermomix or Thermomix in Spain.  For the moment I am relying solely on recipes from this forum - which I think will be enough to last me for years!!

My husband and 7 year old daughter are almost as excited about the TMX as I am, and we have had lots of fun over the weekend making juices, brioche, cakes, etc, etc.

I look forward to spending many hours on this forum and even more time with my new baby!!

I just can't imagine what it must be like not knowing the language and having a TMX demo!!
Wow! I wish you luck in your search for the English version. In the meantime, there are loads of pdf books that are in Spanish and you can download translators for your computer. If you have Firefox, there's a translation plug-in, but it's only for older versions of Firefox at this stage.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Welcome to the forum and hope it's not too long before you get a response from TMX UK - if you want me to give them a ring on your behalf, just let me know (I live in the UK so it would be easy).  I seem to remember sending them an email off their site which didn't get through so they may not have got yours

Whereabouts in Spain are you?  I'm going to be in Santiago next week and am thinking of looking out for Spanish TMX recipe books but am not sure if my Spanish will be good enough.

Hi Katya - many thanks for your kind offer - I have emailed TMX UK again so here's hoping!  We live near Cartagena in the region of Murcia, South East Spain.  If I can be of any help with getting Spanish recipe books for you then let me know and I would be happy to send them on to you.  The TMX is extremely popular out here and I have subscribed to the monthly magazine - my poor Spanish should improve no end (along with my cooking!).  If you would like more details of the magazine then please let me know.  Have you seen the posts on downloading cooking books?   There are lots of Spanish TMX recipe books available for free.  They are in hints and suggestions - I have copied link from Marcola below - I am not clever enough to work out how to put it in automatically: my apologies for not following proper protocol!

Hi eveybody,

There is one web page where you can download many cooking books, some of them for TMX. You may know the web but just in case  here it is:

http://www.4shared.com/network/search.jsp?sortType=1&sortOrder=1&sortmode=2&searchName=cocina&searchmode=2&searchName=cocina&searchDescription=&searchExtention=&start=0

Enjoy  :-*[/color]

QUOTE ENDS HERE BUT I CAN'T GET IT TO GO BACK TO NORMAL - SORRY!

Have a good holiday Katya!

Hi brazen20au - thank you for your kind offer (I think!!)   I have located a copy of Everyday Cooking with Thermomix which I believe is Australian - so I guess you are off the hook but thanks anyway!!!

Welcome Lesley Anne - I have sort of fixed your post.  Some suggestions - apart from the Forum.  The Spanish Vorwerk Thermomix site has videos (in Spanish) but they can generally be followed.

The head of Thermomix in Spain speaks perfect English and there is a cookery teacher in Madrid - gabriela LLamas near the Opera (May be able to find here via Alambique Cooking school and shop) - she speaks perfect English too and has written a cookbook (in Spanish  :( ) called Cocinar con Thermomix.

UK Thermomix have been pretty good at responding.  Keep trying.  There will be a meat cookbook out in Australia soon, the Vegetarian one is very good.

Good luck

Hasta pronto

Hi Lesley! I am English, and live in Spain, Malaga, for over 20 years now! Let me know if I can help you out in any way. Did you get a Spanish recipe book with your machine. I have found the recipe books very good, and quite international really, obviously some very typical Spanish food, but also some very versatile recipes. The natillas, and rice puddings and great everyday desserts for the family.
Welcome anyway! Obviously here you will find fantastic recipes and lots of help and advice! Enjoy your new Baby!

Thank you very much Thermomixer (and for fixing my post!).  By coincidence we are off to Madrid this weekend so I have thrown out the guide book and will be heading straight to find Gabriella Llamas!  Thank you too for the other suggestions.  I have now managed to speak to Thermomix UK and I hope and bundle of recipe books will be heading my way fairly soon.

Nice to hear from you Bron - I have only lived here for a year so things are very new to me.  I am slowly finding my way around both geographically and linguistically.  The book that came with the machine is "Imprescindible" which is very good and I have subscribed to the TMX magazine.  I have decided to go native with my cooking as it is much easier to buy local produce than hunt down vague ingredients from English recipes.  However, every now and then a little "home grown" comfort food is called for like Christmas pudding and Crumble and Custard!

Thank you everybody for your kind messages, I feel very welcome!

Hi Lesley. I contacted Janie at Thermomix HQ (they're just down the road from me) and she says she doesn't have any messages from you.  She has asked if you would email her directly at info@UKThermomix.com and she'll get back to you as soon as possible. She's got lots of great cook books so will be able to help you out I'm sure.  Good luck.
