Discoloured Measuring Cup
«

Horror of all horrors, I made a curry sauce in TMX and the MC (measuring cup) has been discoloured bright yellow by the turmeric. I have soaked in bleach for a few days, but no avail! Any ideas?

Mine isn't bright yellow, but I have noticed it no longer has it's clarity. It seems sort of slightly cloudy.
I've found when I spill curry things on the bench it disappears over time. Not sure if this will happen. I just had a look in Shannon Lush's book but couldn't find anything about curry stains.

Try rubbing with vegetable oil. This often takes stains off plastic. I have had success with tupperware and the iinsiide of the food processor in the past.

Brilliant. Maybe even glycerine, Shannon Lush uses that a lot.

Mine is cloudy as well, I just assumed it was scratched and marked from all the grain and sugar grinding that I do
Off to try rubbing it with oil for glycerine... will report back

I did exactly the same thing with mine...the day I was doing a demo...I tried everything - bicarb/bleach/vinegar/lemon juice....nothing would get rid of it....I had to go and buy a new MC, even now almost a year on the one that was discoloured is still a shade of tumeric! I keep that one for cooking curries now!
I asked Grace about it and she said that the MC will absorb colours, and if they made it so that it wouldnt then it wouldnt be food safe so you cant win!

A yellow, cloudy MC will have to be a sign of a well used TMX.

Yes that is what I tell everyone, I have been thinking of buying a new one ($12.00) just for demo's. At this point I will need new blades as well so they are shiny to match lol

Mine is cloudy too. I always see the clear, sparkling MC's at cooking class and can't even remember mine looking like that.

May pay for new users to put some paper or plastic over the MC when going to use curry pastes or tumeric. I got a new MC and was amazed at what I could see through it. May be best to get another and use one for things you need to see and the other for curries etc.

Mine isn't cloudy yet, but I do remember watching someone do a bread demo in a bread machine that was the most stained horrible looking thing I'd ever seen. I commented on it and the demonstrator said, "If your Bread Machine doesn't look like this, you're not using it enough!"
So, embrace that cloudy stained MC....
