Hello from Ballarat
« on: November 11, 2009, 06:32:02 am »
Hi. I'm Susan from Ballarat . Are there any other Thermomix fans around here? I have been saving for a Thermomix for some time, but would like to know as much as possible about it before I broach the subject with my other half. This forum has been a wonderful resource, with so much good advice and information, as well as encouragement and delicious recipes. I look forward to being part of it.

You won't be disappointed after the spending has been done and the 'other half' won't be either! I have found apart from the yummy food that comes out of TMX, the things that impress 'the other halves' are that the machine is FULLY made in Europe which means quality and just how the TMX works (reluctance-free motor that has no moving parts or belts and runs on magnets) which doesn't really interest me at all but it goes faster then a race car (10 200 RPM)!! And I have it on good authority after reading it under xxxx Gold lid that a race car's top speed is 7 500 RPM. The decreased grocery bill will prove a real winner too. But really you should just have a demo with another 2 couples and it'll surprise you but 'other half' will really get into it - .  ;)

There is also a new interest free promotion at the moment - so ideal time to take advantage of this offer. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone on this forum who is disappointed in any way with their machine -- we are all TMX addicts who cannot live without our little friend in the kitchen.

Susan , looks like you are already part of the forum. Welcome. You don't have to actually own a thermomix to enjoy the company but it helps.

Hi Susan and welcome to the forum. You will probably find that most of us on here are addicted very happy with our machines. They make cooking a breeze, especially in the warmer weather.

addicted very happy is absolutely correct- not only with the machine but also with this forum. Welcome to the forum Susan. My DH was at my demo and I think that clinched the deal for me. Boys are usually impressed by it's mechanics.

Hello Susan

I'm over in Hamilton.  I took delivery of my TMX last week so I'm still very much a newbie.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Nay-nay that information about the mechanics is just the sort of thing I need to tell the OH. Once of his first comments was "What if something goes wrong? Then you won't have anything etc. etc" He will be reassured to know it's European designed and built.

Heather, congratulations on your new Thermomix. You must be so excited. What have you made in it so far? Do you have a local consultant or did someone have to come from elsewhere?

I noticed that many of you on the forum have had your Termomixes for quite some time and love them more than ever and use them regularly. That, more than anything, makes me think the money will be well spent. The more I read on this forum the more determined I am to buy one.

Good luck with saving up for your TMX. You'll never regret it! I am loving mine more and more.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

There is a consultant (Jude) in Horsham who's daughter lives in Hamilton.  She managed to combine a few things down this way when mine was ready for delivery.

Do you have a consultant in Ballarat?  I can pass on Jude's details if you need.

I really need some spare time to play with my TMX but I'm just so busy.

So far I have made:
the standard (almost) mushroom risotto - was great but makes a lot so I was eating leftovers for a while.
Quinoa - which wasn't a disaster but did pose some problems - I have a thread about it in technical questions.
Green smoothies - I can't believe how easy it is to make these as I was using a clapped out old blender before.

And now I've found this forum I have a huge list of recipes from the Vegetarian thread to try next week when I have some time at home.

Good luck Heather, time is definitley something you need when you first get your machine. It is great to just cook and cook with it.

Thanks Heather. A very nice consultant from Hoppers Crossing called me today.  I think Hoppers Crossing is closer to Ballarat than Horsham because of the freeway. I've  had a look at the vegetarian  recipes too. I think the Thermomix would be great for vegetarian cooking because there is quite a lot of prep involved in many dishes. There are quite a few vegetarians in my family, including me most of the time, so that's another reason to get a Thermomix. Let us know how the vegetarian recipes turn out.

Good luck Susan.  The consultant from Hoppers is good.  There is one in Hamilton - think here Group Leader is in geelong - not sure which territory you may be in, but Hoppers is close.

Have a friend near Geelong who could help too.

Good luck with convincing DH

Hi everyone. Well, one step closer. I am having a demonstration next Monday morning. This will give my OH a chance to see the Thermomix in action. He's agreed to get one if it performs the way it says is does. I'm really looking forward to it.

If anyone in the Ballarat area (or anywhere else) would like to come along, please send me a message. The demo is on Monday, 23 November at 10.30.
