Hello from the Pilbara (Australia)
« on: November 12, 2009, 07:22:44 pm »
Hi There

I hail from the Pilbara in North West WA. I have just ordered my thermomix and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I look forward to experimenting with some of the fantastic recipies on this forum.
I ordered the thermomix after my second demo. Partly because of the speed and ease of use (I like to cook, but get frustrated by the piles of pots and pans at the end!) and secondly because of the health benefits. A few months ago I bought a book entitled ' The 150 healthiest foods on earth' by Jonny Bowden. It was a real eye opener and has changed the way I eat. I am aiming to remove as much prepackaged food, preservatives, excess salt etc as possible from my diet and I believe the thermomix is going to be an integral part of my success. Imagine: icing sugar without anticaking agents, churning my own butter, baking my own bread, making my own pasta sauce, curry pastes and grinding my own spices. The thermomix will give me the power to control exactly what I eat without having to spend half my life in the kitchen! I will even be using it to dessecate coconuts from my own coconut trees! Sorry for rabbling but I am so excited about my thermomix and the health benefits it will bring!!

Your own coconut - now that is impressive.  I was chuffed with myself yesterday when our lunch rolls had homegrown lettuce and tomato and eggs (boiled) from our chooks.  I wonder if coconut trees would grow in Tassie?  ;)

Welcome bartoncs. No need to apologise about any rambling- none of us consider it rambling at all. Where abouts in the Pilbara are you. I spent a couple of years in Tom Price but that was 14 yrs ago.
Hope your TMX arrives soon so you can get going. It makes great slushies for those hot days. ;D ;D

Welcome.  You are so right about the TMX and doing everything from beginning. Don't forget to vote in the poll showing where you are from. WA and QLD are going neck and neck!
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Heya

I actually lived in Tom Price for 13 years but now live in Dampier. I really can't take credit for growing the coconuts. They have been here for about 30 years but we only bought the house this year! We are however in the process of turning our garden into a productive garden. We are planting fruit trees amongst our existing garden beds to fill in some gaps, we have planted; mango, banana, paw paw, passionfruit, chocolate pudding fruit, guava, avocado, lemons, limes and mandarins!! We also have started a veggie garden and have lots of fresh tomatos, herbs, lettuces etc which is fantastic.

Unfortunately I don't think coconut palms grow in tassie however you are so lucky living there! You have all the beautiful berry fruits, cherries and pink eye potatos!!!!
