indian cook book - Rogan Josh
« on: November 14, 2009, 01:46:54 pm »
Hi guys,

Need your help. Made the rogan josh out of the Indian cookbook but after 1 hour in the oven could smell burning and found that the sauce had dried up. The curry still tasted great but there is no way it could have stayed in the oven for the 2 hours as stated. Has anyone else had this problem? I checked the recipe and I followed it correctly, is there a fault in the water weight as 60g obviously isn't enough. HELP!

Sorry, don't have the book at hand - 60g sounds like too little - would pay to contact UK Thermomix and check with them.

http://www.ukthermomix.com/contactform.php - they are very helpful

Vixen666 did you use the 280g yoghurt? I will be interested in hearing the reply from the UK.

yes I did use the yoghurt.
Below is their reply :-

Thank you for your inquiry.

We haven't had a problem with this recipe so I am wondering if you are using a fan oven with the fan on.
If so, please select your "no fan" setting.

If this does not apply I recommend that you use an oven thermometer to check the actual temperature of your oven. Actual temperatures can vary from oven to oven.

Too hot to put the oven on for a couple of days.  Will try.

I made the Rogan Josh tonight and was very careful with it and had exactly the same trouble that you did. I also felt that the spices weren't ground up enough. It was very dry and not really nice at all. I'll put in a review about it.

Sounds like you'd better give UK thermomix an update, so that they know.

I take it from your original post that the flavour is good enough to bother finding out how to tweak it to make it successful is it, Vixen?  If so I'll have a play with it myself once I'm back onto spicy foods.

As my picture shows, I've suddenly become younger :-)  DD was of the opinion that her picture should be here, not mine!

Yes, my dish was covered. I think it just needs more water added. Left a horrid dry mess in the casserole dish to clean. I checked it frequently too. DH did a good job of cleaning it!
