I'm a bit scared.

Hi everyone,

I had my thermomix delivered today and I have to say I am a bit daunted by it  :-))  I am not the worlds best cook and therefore was hoping that this may help me, if I can work it!!!! 

I just made minestrone soup from the EDC and it was delicious. I even ate the peas I put in it and I haven't eaten those for probably 15 years!

I'm sure I will get comfortable but at the moment it's a bit scary.  Husband is going through the cookbook now and has decided on Thai red curry tomorrow night  ??? ???  Oh no he's re opened the EDC now and is finding something else for me to make.   I thought I was meant to spend less time in the kitchen?

Hi Tammy and welcome Don't worry, it won't be long and you'll just be looking for excuses to cook something!!! You'll be inviting friends around just to show off how well you can cook.

One of my girlfriends kept complaining that she couldn't cook. Now she has a thermomix and is often telling me all of the amazing things she's whipping up. In fact she is more adventerous than I am.

So rest easy, enjoy and look forward to a complete change!!  ;D ;D :-*

Welcome Tammy. Don't be frightened. It won't be long before you can whip up a 3 course meal in the time it used to take you to cook one course- and there will be less mess to clean up. ;D

Welcome Tammy, just take a step at a time and before you know it you will be in control of the TMX and will have no fear of it at all.  Perhaps ask DH to not just choose recipes but to try and make something himself and you sit back and watch him.  Just remember to read the recipe carefully and never use the butterfly at over speed 4.

Welcome Roxy - check out recipes that have good reviews.  Some are sure fire winners - chicken in the Varoma - sorry, should find the link.

Thanks all,

JudyDawn - DH used the thermie to make a dip last night but because he works 12 hrs a day most of the cooking is up to me! (poor him!!!!). 

I will search for the chicken recipe thanks Thermo, although haven't had much exposure to the veroma so again a bit scary  :D

I think we will do a bit of a cook off this weekend so hopefully by Monday can report more success.

Roxy, I didn't use my varoma for at least 6 months after getting my TMX but it is now an important part of my cooking.  I steam all my vegies and love the recipe Thermomixer referred to.  Glad to hear DH has made something - a dip is a start and you will never buy a bought dip again after making them in your TMX.  You will come to love your TMX so much you will want to spend more time in the kitchen as there as so many wonderful recipes (especially on this forum) for you to try.  Lots of lovely chicken ones which are my favourites. Let us know how you are progressing won't you?

Oh Roxy - make sure hubby learns to use it so he can cook you a meal too  ;) Then he can pick out the recipes HE wants to cook.  :D

I think we're all a bit scared when we are first left to work it alone. There seems so many knobs to turn. Don't worry. Just try things that you feel you can cope with and you will soon be very comfortable. As others have said if you're unsure of anything just ask here and you'll soon have a reply-we've all been there.

Welcome too and enjoy your machine.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

I've had my Thermomix about a month now and I can't believe how easy it is to use now - I must admit I was very daunted to start with.  Now I adapt my old recipes and if it doesn't work out very well I try again next time - there is not hours and hours of prep or loads of washing up so it is easy to have another go!

Don't worry about making mistakes - I got up too early this morning obviously and instead of putting molasses into the bread recipe I added maple syrup (same colour through half closed eyes). Got over that one alright. Turned on the machine to knead the bread, and after a couple of minutes thought it wasn't moving around all over the place like normal. Had a look inside and had forgotten to add the water  :-)) All I can say is its lucky I'm not a doctor  ;D because there'd be a lot of sick/dead patients today...

Ha!  I left mine sit on the bench so I could just stare at it for the first 24hrs or so.... :D

Didn't take my teenage son long to start it up though so then it wasn't so difficult! ;)

Yep, I was a bit scared too!
I made Minestrone for lunch today too! It was super delicious. I used my home made Tomato Passata instead of tinned tomatoes - delish!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Well I think I have you all to blame for the mess in my kitchen  ;)  It's a Saturday night, shouldn't I not be cooking?  Actually I'm not really sure that I am yet  :-[ 

MeganJane - That Tomato Passata looks brilliant definitely adding that to the list of need to dos.

I made the ILB Bimby cake because it looked so simple.  BUT I mustn't have cleared my scales properly so when I poured some milk in it didn't register, so I then guessed how much was needed.  Now I really should have added all the dry ingredients and then added the milk gradually so I could suss out how much I needed but I'm not much of a thinker when it comes to cooking and have now ended up with runny delight  :-[ If only it ended there  :D I then put it in a tin and which has bent out of shape slightly so the base didn't sit in it properly and there was a gap and so my runny delight ran in my oven everywhere. 

All of this and I only wanted to make a carrot cake but brazens recipe had apple sauce and I didn't have that so went searching for something else and found this recipe.  I am laughing at the fact I still want to make something else tonight  ;D ;D
