Hello from the USA
« on: November 29, 2009, 09:46:08 pm »
I just ordered my Thermomix from a Canadian distributor last week and will receive it soon. I am in the US, so I have never seen a demo, but decided to buy solely based on my aunt's recommendation only. She lives in Taiwan and just recently got one there.

I have asked for a Chinese cook book, so hopefully, I can translate and share some of the recipes there here for all to enjoy.

Hi Sandra,
There's a few people buying lately without a demo, so recommendations must be flying around the world quickly.  There are some great videos that help if you're a visual learner.  Enjoy!

Welcome Sandra.  You won't regret buying, but I do recommend that you watch the demos on YouTube, for example, as you are more likely to get to grips with the wide range of functionality faster if you've seen the variety of things it can do.  I never saw a demo for my TM21, and never used its full functionality.  Whereas with the TM31, for which i had a demo, there was no stopping me.

Don't get me wrong, I still loved and used my TM21 well, just not to the same degree.  There's nothing like someone opening your eyes and imagination to the full range of what it can do - and between the YouTube demos and this forum, you should get the full advantage out of yours.

Looking forward to those translated Chinese recipes!!  ;D
As my picture shows, I've suddenly become younger :-)  DD was of the opinion that her picture should be here, not mine!

I'm in southern California and just got my TMX  on November 12.  So far I have been experimenting with various categories so I can learn the basics and possibilities.

I have to say that so far, the thing that has impressed me the most is the risotto.  I think I have prepared risotto five times since I got the machine because it is so easy.  I used to prepare it no more than once a month because all that stirring was very tiring and I have arthritis which is very severe in my right hand.

I never saw a demonstration but there had been a lively discussion on eGullet.org, a food forum on which I am fairly active, so I looked for more information and was given some excellent, and very prompt, contact information.

Hi Sandra, welcome to the forum.  Like CarolineW, I too will be interested to see some of your translated Chinese recipes. At least you have Aunt who can help when you have a problem and of course, just ask anything on this forum and you will get a quick response.  We have quite a few Americans on the forum now so I am sure they will come to your aid too, if necessary. Have fun when you get your machine.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

The UPS guy just came, but I was not at my desk and he will not leave it without me paying the brokerage fee, which is something that I did not expect. Wish the merchant has told me about it....  Darn.... Called UPS and they said they will call me when the driver gets back to the station for same day pick up....

And I have a work-related commitment this evening, but I will sneak out and pick up my new toy somehow. :)
