RAWvolution Recipe Book
« on: December 30, 2009, 01:58:55 pm »
I've just got this book out of the library. Most recipes are made in a blender or food processor, so ideal for the TMX!

It's really interesting and I'd love to try some of the food. The author, Matt Amsden, has a raw food restaurant in Santa Monica, California.

What I like is the idea of using a dehydrator. I've never thought of that as something to do with raw food. He makes an onion 'bread' in a dehydrator and it sounds delish.
Another thing I loved was the zucchini 'spaghetti'. It looks like real spaghetti! Of course, you have to have a Spirooli Slicer to get the right look.

The nut loaves are also delicious looking. Has anyone made any of his recipes? If so, how did they turn out?

I do note that he'd be lost without his fresh Thai Coconut juice. Something I could never lay my hands on. Also Agave nectar. All the 'pastries' use Agave nectar and ground nuts.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Thanks MJ - I think (from distant memory) that the Rawlicious book has some recipes that use the dehydrator too.  May be worth a look.

I like his book, but most of the recipes are too salty, too much soy sauce and too much garlic. I adapted a couple recipes for the Thermomix and our taste. I like the recipes with the coconut water, can't eat the recipes with his onion bread  :-)). I use the Spirooli Slicer a lot. The pastries are delicious. You can substitute the agave with maple syrup or dates.

I love zucchini 'pasta' - I just use a sharp peeler, and peel thin strips - works fine.  (More like fettucine then - see the Raw Pasta recipe in this section.)  I use Agave nectar/syrup a lot too - it's delicious, and natural.

I just got this book out of the library today!  Going to try the cucumber soup but substitute rocket for the watercress.

Half your luck to be getting this book from the library. Unfortunately my library doesn't have it and I've seen it on the shelf at a health food store for $70 which seems pretty steep. It looked like there were some interesting recipes in it, and that it would be cheaper on Amazon, so I'm thinking about getting it...

TheCrone, isn't it wonderful with Book Depository and their free shipping. DD and I buy a lot of books from them.  Quite often they are much cheaper than here.
