Salad Cream
« on: December 31, 2009, 01:14:50 am »

Hello Everyone

Hope you had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a happy and prosperous New Year!

I have a penchant for Heinz English Salad Cream - yes, I could eat it on toast!  ;D

Does anyone have a recipe for one?  I like the mayo in the basic recipe book, but I want that sourish taste with the thick, runny, creamy consistency.

All suggestions gratefully accepted!

Regards
Sandy

For heart and soul.

I have had this recipe on my 'To Try' list for quite a while.  I haven't done so yet so don't know if it's anything like the bought stuff, but it's very simple and could be done in the TM.  If you try it please let us know how it turned out.  ;D

english salad cream

100 ml light cream (cooking cream)
    2 tsp fresh lemon juice
    2 heaped tsp Dijon mustard
    2 tsp white wine vinegar
    6-8 anchovies, finely chopped

Whisk all the ingredients together until well combined. Taste for seasoning.

Hi JulieO

Thanks for the recipe.  It sounds delicious - will look for a replacement for the cream (wonder if you can get soy cream or such) as my husband and son are a1 milk protein intolerant and I'd like to be able to make it for them as well.  I can eat this yummy version though!!!

I'm also going to have a go at tweeking the mayo recipe in the basic recipe book and see if I can get something similar to Salad Cream.  Will post how I go with it.

Cheers
