Excited new owner in Cairns
« on: February 22, 2010, 01:50:06 am »

Hi,

I have had my machine for 3 days and made Beef Stroganoff and mashed potato (everyday cook book)  last night for dinner, it was Delicious, however for dessert I made Rice pudding also from EDC and it was very gluey. I followed the recipe exactly.  The rice wasn't in its original state even though I had machine on  :-:. Has anyone had similar problems? :-))

Hi SHell,
I am a new owner too! (since Friday) I too made beef strog for our first dinner and it was yum!
I made the rice pudding last night also and yes mine was very stuck together. It tasted beautiful but i thought it would be a bit more creamy maybe or more runny. I think the texture turned the kids off. They are extrmemly fussy  :-))
I made lots over the weekend and I am scouring for more different recipes. The forum is great for help :)

Cheers

Nice to hear from you Mum23,  Hopefully someone more experienced can help us with the Rice pudding disaster. :(  Let me know what other recipes you have success with. Cheers

Shell & mum23  -  I don't know what could be going wrong with your rice pudding.  I find it perfect whenever I do it.  You are not using long grain rice are you?  I use Calrose short grain rice and the pudding is still quite liquidy after full cooking time but it absorbs the liquid on standing.  Funny that both of you experienced the same problems - I have an earlier book than you so these are my quantities for you to compare with the latest book.
1000 g milk
150g medium grain white rice, rinsed well in cold water
60g sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
2 eggs, lightly beaten
Sugar and rice into TM bowl & cooking time is 35 minutes at 90o on reverse and soft speed.
Other ingredients then added and stirred through for a few seconds.
I then leave it to absorb the excess milk.

Welcome Shell. ;D

I make the rice pudding (Judy's recipe) and have no problems. I use slightly less sugar as we like it less sweet. As Judy said it does need to stand a bit. I only use medium grain rice too.
I hope things improve for you. The recipes on the forum are usually tried and people have put responses up to them. Or look in Recipe Reviews for recipes from books.

hallo there!
i am a new thermomummy too :D

we had stroganoff for dinner tonight, dh made it but he was concerned that it was a little too runny. i didn't care the taste was beautiful even if it could be a little thicker. We aren't big cornflour eaters so i usually reduce my liquid dishes on the stove so i think he might just be used to that thick rich texture that a higher heat can bring. i am going to experiment next time with cooking the pasta in with the stroganoff and see if the starch acts as a thickener.

Eitherway i would definitely try it again just as it is.

Welcome shell - sorry to hear about the rice pud.  Might have to check it out.  Afraid I tend not to follow recipes to the letter any more - keep looking and tasting when it gets near the end.  Been caught too often.

All will improve with your help though - let us know of your successes and not so successful recipes.

Hi Shell and welcome to the forum. I too am from Cairns and have had my TMX for over a year. When you get familiar with it you won't worry about the failures and will be able to adjust recipes easily as thermomixer says. There is a lot of trial and error. Enjoy.

Absolultey awesome.  Nai Yang had more than 20 restaurants all on the beach in the sand. A Deep fried whole snapper with Thai sauce for less than 10 bucks. Hard not to love the place. We ate only Thai food and did not have the same thing twice except for the DF fish. Ate in every restaurant and had a drink or two in every bar. Fat as I am. Worth every morsel and didn't miss my Bimby at all.

Thanks for asking. Wading through all the posts.  Good to see so many new ones.
