At a loss!!!
« on: February 28, 2010, 05:03:18 am »
Well I had my Varoma party on Friday and since this day I cannot find the cook book that comes with the TM. So I will be relying on this site now till it decides to surface lol, I think it may have accidentally went with the TM demonstrator and am waiting for reply  ???

I have made the avocado dip that 'I love Bimby' posted in September, to take when I go to my friends house shortly while all the kids go for a swim. The avocado dip was a hit with my kids, now lets see when I make it next if hubby will eat it (he doesn't like avocado).   ;D

Mymac2009, I hardly know a man who does like avocado - it seems to be a woman thing.  All the more for us  ;D ;D ;D

Me too Karen but if you need any help until you find the book mymac2009, just ask us.  A lot of the basic stuff that is handy is in that book - I still refer to it for lots of things.

I thought my DH was the only one who didn't like avocado. Glad to read that others don't too.

Mymac 2009, I'm sure everyone here will help until you receive your book back.

Thank you ladies, yes I am still learning to use the TM so it never far away so I can use it as a reference untill I am more confident. I am in such a cooking mood, so I think I might cook up a storm tonight so when my sister and her family come over there is something for everyone.  :D
The DD and DS loved the banana and walnut bread, the vegetarian sausage rolls, the avocado dip, my variation to the bolognaise sauce, the home made pizzas. This weeks attempt is making little DD baby food her 1st solids.

I'm very surprised that men there don't like avocado.  Guys here love guacamole and vie with each other producing recipes that are either hotter (with hot chiles) or more unique (with unusual ingredients) and one of my Mexican neighbors relies on her husband to prepare huge bowls of it for their big parties.  His recipe is a secret and I would love to have it because it is the best I have ever tasted.
I know he uses only Haas avocados and Roma tomatoes and only brown onions, but the type of chiles (not very hot) are carefully hidden as are the remaining ingredients.

I LOVE avocado - in any form, just with vinaigrette and S&P is brilliant.  Maybe I'm a girl  :o :o :o

mymac2009 - do a search for "Full Steam Ahead" - include the " " inverted commas and you will find a number of recipes that have been roughly converted from the Italian book - but they are essentially correct and the same as our book.

Oh thank you I will have a look. Yes the demonstrator lady has my book lol yay for me at least I know where it is. Men they are funny creatures, my boys (DS and DH) love spinich especially in canelloni, but DH has been working away and now likes spinich pizza's. If I persist my DH will eventually like avocado, when my DS was a few yrs old and it was just us in the day once week I used to make chicken, cheese and avocado toasted sandwiches and a milkshake as our special time, so now he likes it but only in a few things.

And as far as canalloni, I get hounded for it if I haven't made it for a while. Once I have moved house and have a free moment I will add it on this forum. I use a different cheese and am particular on the diced tomatoes I use.

Is there anything you don't like Thermomixer  ???

I get avocado into my DH with this drink posted by Allina which is from a SkinnyChef.com

1/2 ripe avocado
2 tblspns brown sugar
2 tblspons cocoa powder
1 tspn vanilla extract
200mls milk (I use this quantity then thin it down with more milk until I get the consistency I want)
Place all ingredients into the TM bowl.  Blend for 30 secs on speed 9.
Serve over ice.
Variations - add 1/2 banana for extra flavour and vitamins
Add 6-8 blocks of ice for an iced chocolate feel.

After he drank it, I told him it had avocado in it.  He had no idea.

Has anyone tried Avocado as a pudding?   I don't have the quantities but basically you puree a couple of ripe avocados and fold them into whipped cream and add sugar and lime juice to taste.

The fun is when you ask people to guess what is in it  ;)

LOL JD - chocolate is about the only thing that I wouldn't walk over broken glass to get to.  But I even get excited by silver beet cooked well.  i love broccoli and save the stems to peel and dice and make into a curry,   sorry, I digress.

Haven't tried avocado pudding - sounds interesting.  there is an avocado and ginger ice cream somewhere on here.

Cheryl's Avocado and Ginger Ice-Cream

My mum occasionally made avocado ice-cream, a long time ago.  No idea whether I liked it or not, but if it works in a chocolate ice-cream, then no reason why it wouldn't be nice.

Judy, maybe you could morph Jo's Banana-Nut Ice-cream into something with Avocado, using your milkshake recipe for some ideas of quantities?  That would trip out your DH.

Yes, I'm sure that would work cathy. It is such a smooth little critter, you could hide it anywhere.

My ex husband refused to eat avocado and tomato even though his parents owned a rare fruits farm (with around 7 varieties of avocado at least from memory) when I met him.

His mother could never work out how I managed to get him to eat both...  :D

My 15yo DS will devour them by the truckload... :-))

My grandmother used to make a very yummy banana and avocado icecream too.  ;D
