Quince paste today.  The last lot has nearly gone.  DS and family took some up to the Chalet where they are staying and shared it with other skiers.  Apparently they loved it.
Also will start Quince jelly.
Another go at Mary Berry’s Fruit and nut slice.

Mab, looks nice.
Don’t think the Mary Berry recipe is working.  Someone said that if a recipe isn’t working, add more butter.  Think this might e the case here.

Thanks Margaret, I don’t think the banana flavour is even noticeable.  I often find blackened bananas in Mum’s walker basket so rather than throw them out I bring them home and throw them in the freezer.  It was time to start using some of them!

Judy sent me a post about making crumpets in a pie maker.  This is certainly an easy alternative to using crumpet rings.
There are a couple of disadvantages.
1.   From a cup of SD starter I can make 6 crumpets in the rings. With the pie maker I can make 4 crumpets. Same size.
2 . It is difficult to get even browning on both sides with the pie maker.  This is essential if the crumpets are to be toasted in a toaster. Not so important if reheated in a pan.
Dan Lepard says that crumpets should not be eaten immediately after making but let to set up for a day or frozen.

Below, made with rings in frypan

Thanks for trying them Chookie and pointing out the pros and cons.  As I haven’t got decent sized rings I will try the pie maker myself one day.

Judy, Dan Lepard had a comprehensive recipe for crumpets in the paper.  Although I make SD ones, I think his recipe looks good.

Thermomixer has one too from the early days of the forum.

I don't understand how it is possible to leave crumpets for a day or so and not eat them immediately!

I'm hoping to buy some crumpet rings in the next couple of days and attempt to make some soon.
