Our kitchen smells amazing at the moment ..... I am making things for christmas hampers, and have just finished a batch of sweet chilli sauce, have got strawberry jam on the go at the moment, and next I am going to attempt to convert a recipe that I have for a spiced rhubarb chutney. It will be my first real conversion of a recipe - so fingers crossed!

I'd love the recipe for the Spiced Rhubarb Chutney. I have just been given a heap of rhubarb and the freezer is full of stewed rhubarb.

I'd be happy to post it if it works out! I have just had to put it on for another 45 mins to cook, because I forgot to set the temperature, and it has been "cooking" away with no heat
It tastes good though!

I've been so busy with my Skinflint business and have also had a lot of relief teaching lately, plus Council meetings, so my time in the kitchen has been frantic!
Over the last week, I've made the great boiled mayonnaise of my Mum's with some tweaks, which I really must post! Mostly using Herman to prepare tea and then cooking on the stove as both boys have been home and also DD is staying here while her partner is spending hours on the harvester.
(We live in town and they're out on a farm. She works in town, so easier for her to stay and I love it!)
Also, more of the delicious curry powder from the vege cookbook and bread - a mixture of a 1/2 bread mix with 1/2 my regular recipe - excellent! Canned soup replacement with wine and mustard.
I envy you guys who've been able to do so much cooking!

A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

On the agenda today we have a roast dinner - probably cooked the conventional way but Thelma will be focussing on bread today and some steamed puddings. I'm going to do several steamed puddings and only cook them 2/3rds through so that I can finish them off as and when we need them.
I made the dulce de leche last night which, mixed with some "nutella" made by Thelma makes a lovely chocolate sauce. So a spotted dick, a chocolate steamed pudding and maybe a golden syrup ....

I made Isi's portugese breadrolls for the first time....YUMMO
Then I did up a garlic/parsley butter and melted it to dip the bread in....all carb and fat free of course
(I must add that this wasn't a snack for myself to enjoy...I did take it over to a mates house for nibblies)

Okay weekend cooking was fine for Saturday but Sunday was a write off thanks to, too many drinks with the school Mum's on Saturday night. But they did love the dips and the mango puree for the ballinis we drank. Made the carrot cake turned out lovely, on saturday.Made a beef casserole Saturday night for husband and kids ..must of been good cause there was no leftovers. Sunday made a few nice icey drinks to try to enter the normal world. Picklets for a mid morning snack yesterday. Dinner last night was a roast ,steamed the veges in the varoma and made gravy...not sure if I would make the EDC gravy again ...will have to work my own out. Tonight going to make chicken and sweetcorn soup. Tomorrow Bafs chicken ..so will report back.

With not being able to access the forum today, I spent most of my day in the kitchen. Made caramelised onions to go with some BBQ'd sausages which we had in a sandwich for lunch, made 1/2 qty French onion dip using some of the caramelised onions and using the other 1/2 of the philly cheese I made a roasted red capsicum dip I'd tasted at a past cooking class. I then made another batch of tomato sauce, this time from the forum and for tea I made a risotto type dish using the leftover sausages. Oh, and we had one of those 'Magic Milkshakes' someone posted the link to the other day.

With many, many thanks to Cornish Cream for sending me the recipe as I couldn't find my book in the chaos and destruction caused by decorators and carpet fitters I made mushroom risotto last night. At the last minute (half way through making it!) I discovered that I didn't have enough risotto rice so I threw in what I did have and cut down on the stock. As a result it was very "winey" and not a big hit with the children .... I'll have another bash next week and do it properly ...
Today the plan is to make some bread, chocolate chip scones, pastry for mince pies (mince meat already made), pizza dough for make your own pizzas for tea and some mayonnaise!

Yesterday I made the bolognaise ragu from the EDC - a hit with DH and DS1. I loved it also because I put in chunks of partially frozen mince and didn't put it into reverse (sounds like I'm driving a car) until it was time to add the tomato. The meat was fully cooked and completely lump free when the time was up. As we eat spag bol once a week, having the thermomix do that for me is worth it's cost right there!
I also made some pureed vegies for DS2 who has started solids this week. So quick and easy - I love it. I made a loaf of Isi's bread (fabulous as always) and am about to attempt a Banana Bread with Coconut recipe. I've not made this one before, so it will be interesting. I've yet to find a banana bread recipe that I love...I wonder if this one will be the end of my search?
