I do have dry yeast with me Chookie.  Sadly haven't got to make the crumpets today. It is ever so windy and the van and annexe a moving round horribly. I HATE wind. It really scares me. DH went squidding the other night so we have been invited over to that van for dinner. The lady of the van is going to cook the squid and I'm taking soup (Maddy's Bacon and Vegie soup) and a rice pudding. I have a couple of squishy bananas so will put them over the rice with some brown sugar. Just what we need on a windy night...................................with lots of port. I have a bottle of Benjamin's I haven't opened.

Cookie, hate the wind also.  I think you must have been a teacher,  all teachers hate wind because it makes the kids crazy.  Squid sounds nice and I am sure your rice pud will be greatly appreciated,  to say nothing of that lovely soup.  I toasted some crumpets for breakfast and they were a bit doughy in the center,  so cut them through to make then thinner.  Next time I make them I will divide the mixture into 4,  not 3,  and make them thinner.  Will also grill the tops to set them on the top. ;D ;D ;D  a work in progress.   Once I have it right it will be terrific as the basic TMX'er's  recipe is so good.   Hope the wind drops and you continue to enjoy your holiday.

Well started the day off maing a batch of my Bimby Chocolate cake to make a dolly varden cake for DD's party tomorrow. But I was in a hurry turned it out of the tin too soon and the cake broke  :-X >:( :'( I'd run out of sugar so we headed off to the stupidmarket and brought up again. Made a double batch this time using ready made (ouch!) GF SR Flour, made a double batch as the previous one didn't quiet fill the tin and used the remainder in a square tin.  I need the whole length and a little extra to fit Barbies incrediably long legs into (DD would freak if I amputated  :-))). Well that overflowed, and ended up with a bit of a well in it, but that's where I'd cut a hole in it anyway so all is good - I hope!! Also made some zucchini slice, a chocolate marshmallow slice (which were supposed to be balls but were just way too sticky to roll!) and a few dips etc.  So it's been "one of those days" in the kitchen really.

To top it off we were out last night and DD had normal pizza and has gone back down hill in health today due to the gluten with stomach aches and quite unwell again  :'( :'( (thus the GF cake - all the others will just have to put up with it!). So I hope she's back on top of things in the morning.

Well by the way DD keeps wanting to decorate the cake when I'm either putting it in the oven or just pulling it out.... it could turn out anyway yet.... She's VERY keen to decorate it... can you tell  :D :D :-))

Will be sure to take a photo if it isn't a flop...

Though I keep thinking I have to feed the masses, so have to keep reminding myself that it's 6 kids (b/w 2-5yo) plus parents for 2 hours, that's it... not all day.

Yes they will ILB - because I wouldn't make my kids sick for the sake of others to enjoy themselves either!! Hope she is feeling better tomorrow to enjoy her party. Wish her a very Happy Birthday from all of us  :-* :-*

The little kids don't seem to notice what sort of cake they are eating as long as its a BIRTHDAY CAKE.  The adults shouldn't be eating it anyway,  it is bad for them.   Hope you all have a great day,  and DD is better.

Today I made a batch of large rolls (11), pouring custard to go over some frozen upside-down cake, mashed potato & steamed spinach to go with lamb shanks I cooked in the slow cooker.

Just joking about the adults and birthday cake, ILB.  I love kids birthday cake.  Especially when it has really bright icing  ;D.  Today I cooked Isi's rolls,  sour dough bread. roast chicken for dinner with roast vegies, silver beet from garden,  ( cooked the white stems in white sauce in TMX ).

ILB I hope all goes well. DD used to love Barbie dolly varden cakes.

Chookie, yes I am a teacher. The kids used to say 'wind and rain affects the brain'.  How true.

We had a lunch picnic yesterday for DD's 5th birthday.  Where does the time go.

I made Chelsea's fantastic new Soaked Whole Grain Chocolate Cake - everybody loved it, and have asked that it be my new official cake.  I half explained that it was all wholemeal, but they were too busy gulping it down to care.

Also made Cookie's Spinach, Chickepea and Fetta Quiche with MJ's Sour Cream Pastry.  Was very nice.

Most importantly, DD had a fun day, surrounded by her favourite family members, in a park, with yummy food.

Cathy79, will have to check out the Soaked Grain Chocolate Cake - another for my ever growing list.

ILB, glad your DD was well enough to enjoy her b'day and your wonderful dolly varden cake.

Yesterday, a girlfriend who'd come to my delivery demo, and I spent the after school hours cooking up a storm in the kitchen. We had a huge pot of vegie soup on the stove, made three batches of watermelon/grape sorbet, pickled beetroot, beetroot salad, some TMX stock, a lasagna, some stew for pie filling and two loaves of pumpkin nut bread. A great way to get a whole lot of cooking done in one go. She is hoping that the more we do this the closer her DH will come to letting her have a TMX. At present his stance is that she doesn't need one. It would be so fabulous to have 2 TMXs and three bowls going full steam for a fall day. On Thursday we are going to go again and then one Saturday do a stint child free if we can.

I'm hoping to have a go at making some lebanese flat bread and maybe some pita bread this week.

Thanks Thermomixer. Had noticed that you had been quiet.

Cathy79 - hope DD had a wonderful birthday! That cake sounds very interesting. Might put it on the list to give it a go.
