i still haven't tried them, my main reason for never trying the blender batter is a shocking memory - i never remember to make them the night before lol

chelsea, you could easily replace the honey with maple syrup or agave nectar :)

I know but I can't justify the price.  Even if I reduced the amount they would still work out very expensive with maple or agave. :)

Just use some rapadura or organic raw sugar and blend it up with everything else! Perhaps 1/2 a cup?

Thanks Jo, I'm going to try these over the weekend. I have wholemeal spelt flour, not grains, so I won't mix at the high speed or for as long, but will still do the soaking.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

I've actually started using honey in them MJ with no complaints.  We love the banana ones best at the moment - but that's subject to change.  ;) ;D

what's teh longest you could leave the mix before cooking? i made it yesterday at 11am and forgot to cook them last night. i'm too scared to cook it today as i've remembered that you're not supposed to use the 'leave' function on a breadmaker with any recipes with honey, isn't it a botulism worry? ami imagning things? anyway, how long is safe to leave the blender batter mixes generally?

I think 24 hrs is fine - it's going to be cooked anyway, so I don't think you'd have to worry about it... you could probably smell it if it was off.  Anyway, I don't know about over there, but here the weather's quite cool, so it shouldn't go off quickly.  I often leave things soaking for 24 hrs and haven't had a problem.

Yes, the amount of grain or flour is the same in grams, just blend until well mixed.  I'm sure you could make half the quantity - it does make a lot.  :)

they were amazing, i'm a definitely convert - thanks jo! i even forgot to put in the eggs and they were still brilliant!

i only put in 90g of honey though (got sick of squeezing the bottle) and they were sitll a little too sweet for me lol

Yeah, I'm thinking I could reduce the amount of honey - maybe I should say 'or to taste'!  They're great though, arent' they, how they rise!!  And that's so cool they worked without eggs!

I'm sure you could make them savoury - might need a little extra water/milk to make up for the honey though, so it's the right texture.

How much rye grain did you use Jo? 50%?

I made khorasan (kamut) blueberry muffins earlier in the week with 150g honey and an extra 30g of water. Yummy.  :)
