First Mistake

First day with a new toy - I guess you are allowed one mistake - mine was to put the lid and MC into the dishwasher thinking all work had been completed - silly me.  Went out to make meat balls with tomato sauce and could find the TMX but searched high and low for the lid.  Thank heavens sanity prevailed and I remembered the error never to be made again - from now on ALL parts of TMX remain at bench level.  The meat balls look good too. Mil.

    If that is the worst mistake you have made so far MIL, then you are going along OK.  I never put any of my TMX in the dishwasher for that very reason - as soon as I do, I will want to make something.

Not sure I can remember my first mistake... but it was much worse than that I'm sure!!

It took me a couple of weeks to make my first mistake - forgot to put the seal back in the lid, and blitzed some sugar...you can all picture the cloud of dust, because I'm sure most of you have done it yourselves, and if not...it is just a matter of time.  I SO knew that I would do that sooner or later...

But just now I have had my second mistake - seized chocolate instead of melting.  The only thing I can think of is that the bowl was probably not completely dry as I had just washed it a few minutes before.  Seized chocolate is not fun to clean off the bowl and blade. I am going to be ordering a THM brush at first opportunity I think......

To our newcomers, please remember when using the butterfly attachment that the speed is only up to 4 otherwise you will have little bits of black plastic in your mashed potato.  I almost did it but luckily no damage done but I ordered a spare butterfly just in case I really do mess up one day. Be careful too if DH washes and reassembles the bowl as they have been known to leave bits out.  Oh yes, it has all happened before so you won't be the first to experience disasters of this nature.

Wow! Haven't you got a quick cycle? Mine's about 40 minutes.

But, I still never put anything TMX in there. It's so easy to wash!

Oy, don't go that route.  Seized chocolate can be recovered - not exactly fixed, but re-purposed.

For each 175 gms of chocolate add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and heat to 32° C with the blades on slow stir and without the MC in place.   It will take a few minutes but you will have a semi-liquid chocolate that can be used in anything that calls for melted chocolate.  Pour it into a dry container and allow it to cool without covering it.   Store it at room temp and use it as soon as possible.

I should have added that you can also add heavy cream to the chocolate - instead of the oil - double the amount of oil one would use.

I corrected the temp in my previous post.  It should be 32° C ..  A typo the first time. 

While the result can't be used as tempered chocolate, it can be incorporated into an icing such as buttercream.

Thanks andie - I had heard that a long time ago - but forgot it.  Reminds me that I need to chase up someone who has disappeared off the radar.
