Sydney newbie couple

Hi there

My hubby and I have had out TM for about a month and are trying out our hand at doing demos so we can share the care of our 15 mnth old DS. I am a trained nutritionist but spent the last 15 years in the corporate field (not going back), so the TM is inspiring me to get back to my roots and promote healthy eating and living! We're 5 days into our program and I must say it's hard work LOL - hope it gets easier the more we practice. We're each going way over time for each demo and we've had a few comments about the noise of the machine. Didn't help that a little 4 yo girl at my demo today screamed from the beginning of hearing the TM chop ice and then grind grain. Mum, who appeared very interested, spent the rest of the demo trying to get the child to take her hands off her ears and then promising not to buy it til she was older  . At least my DH had a better time showing it to a friend who owns a commercial bakery - he said the bread was very good. 
I was also shocked to lose weight - managed to shift the post-preggy spare tire!! This even though I've never eaten so much risotto in my life - would have been lucky to eat 1 a year before since it's not my favourite. However, I think all the experimenting has paid off as one of the restauranteur friends of our baker friend declared the risotto perfect- yay!

My 4 year old does a big happy dance when she hears TMX going as she knows there is food coming.

Maybe offer to provide a free pair of earmuffs to young mums if they're concerned?

And good work shifting that tyre - mine keeps coming back.

Beryl, welcome to the forum.  Can sympathise with your guest's daughter - if she comes from a quiet household it is a bit of a shock to the system to hear the TMX grinding ice!  Love the idea of sharing demos with DH when you have a child so young - be interesting to see who gets the most sales

Lots of kids don't like the noise.  Keep at it not every one has small children.

Welcome! Nice to have you here. I have had a couple of demo's now where a mother has luckily told me at the beginning that her little girl has panic attacks if she gets a fright with a loud noise. But because I was aware of it I could tell her it was coming and even get her to turn it on. Another time a little boy was afraid of it and I just told him it was like a tractor and tell me when to ready, set, GO! That worked too. LOL  When I first started (at least the first 4 demos) I wasn't warning the guests to expect a noise and I got alot of comments and almost complaints about it being noisy. But now I make sure I explain that it is a S/S bowl and ice is very hard, drawing people's attention to their fridges that dispense ice making a big noise when crushing the ice. And then when I get to the grain milling I explain when my husband hammer mills the grain for cow feed he has to wear earmuffs - granted, it is on a larger scale but milling grain in a S/S bowl is just going to noisy no matter what. I am surprised I have never had negative comments about the noise since.

Welcome Beryl. Looking forward to some of your recipes.   I had my very first comment over Easter re the noise. It came from a guy who works with machines all the time so I was surprised. (I'm not a consultant)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Thanks for the tips re: noise. My GL told me during training that I shouldn't use the term 'noise' when warning people before the ice/grain part, and just say 'loud sound'. I forgot with that little girl, so paid for it. However, I did another demo where the kids didn't seem bothered by the sound because I had recruited them as my little helpers ( 5 and 8 yo), but the adults put it on their form as the least appealing bit. Go figure!
Thanks also about the guide to the consultants chat. Has taken me a while to read all through the pages and got some great tips. Will heidey ho there now to introduce myself
