MEMOC Seeds "Make Every Mouthful Count"
« on: April 13, 2010, 01:35:37 pm »
Name of Recipe:MEMOC Seeds "Make Every Mouthful Count"
Yield: 2 cups
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons linseeds
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons pepitas
1 tablespoon almonds

Preparation:
Start by grinding linseeds and sesame seeds, speed 9, 20 seconds.  Add remaining ingredients, speed 9, 10 seconds.

This is an ingredient in lots of "Feeding Fussy Kids" recipes.  It doesn't alter taste of food so a teaspoon can be added to almost anything.  It's a food multi-vitamin, rich in all things good.  Add it to all baking eg pikelets, pancakes, muffins, cakes, add to drinks, yoghurt, custard.

Keep in the fridge for 2 months.

JD - my vegetarian DD in Melbourne loves this. I keep mine in the freezer.

KerrynN - I made this to put into a tuna risotto to supplement the nutritional content. I added two tablespoons of chia seeds and left out the almonds as I didn't have time to shell them.

Wonderful idea! I hadn't heard of this before. I imagine also great for feeding fussy adults their daily quota of nutrition!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Sounds good - a bit of an extension of the Linseed Sunflower Almond mix available ready made .... that we can make in the TMX.

More goodies in your version  :-* :-* :-* :-*

I had a phone call from DD1 from Melbourne tonight to tell me she had finally got around to making this.  I gave her the recipe back in May and although she doesn't have a TMX, she managed to make it somehow. She loves it and has asked me to look out for more 'good for you recipes' - I though it would be a good addition to her diet seeing as she doesn't eat red meat or chicken, only fish.  Thanks Cathy - it is nice when your children do as you ask, even if they are 44 years old !!!

you just have to be careful with the almonds if you are making anything that might go to school or kindy with a nut free policy. It would be great for a yogurt topping. chia seeds would be a good addition too.

Just thought I would bump this one seeing as we have so many new members now.  I usually make LSA but this looks better, perhaps even more so with the addition of chia seeds (which would have to go in with the linseeds and sesame seeds to ensure that they get ground up).

This is great! Going to give it a try. I just wasted money, yet again on buying multivitamins that no one will eat! This may help.

I had all these seeds in the freezer so whipped this up and now have the powder in the freezer.  Just tried 1/2 tsp mixed in with 1/2 small tub of flavoured yoghurt and it didn't affect the taste at all so the kids won't even know you have added it to their favourite drinks etc.

This sounds good and will give it a go. Sounds good for adding to meals for extra vitamins. I make up a mixture of lightly crushed almonds and cashews and add all those seeds and sultanas and keep it in the fridge to put on my porridge every morning and it is delicious. I just dig into the container to make sure I get seeds (which sink to the bottom) as well as the nuts.
