I use the 2 teaspoons Judy, but I do like Thermomixer's suggestions.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

JD - you could chop and saute an onion and a garlic clove with some oil befoer adding the other ingredients too.

DO you have fish sauce or anchovies (if you like) to give some extra flavour?

I'd use half the amount of your chilli sauce and curry powder possibly and add some soy if you have (ketcap manis is best or just add some sugar with the soy)

You will probably read this after you have finished dinner - sorry, sure it will be good.

Sorry guys, I have been reading your comments all week trying to work out what the "osbcure" ingredients were and realise that i had posted fish oil instead of Fish sauce!!

You could use any oil instead of sunflower, it just has a milder flavour than others. You leave the sesame out if you wanted it just adds a nuttier flavour. A little goes a long way so once you have some you wont need to buy it again for a while. I use it a lot in salad dressings and stirfry sauces as it adds a really nice flavour.
 The peanuts could also be substituted with a couple of big scoops of peanut butter. I just prefer the taste of real ones. The Fish sauce could be substituted with soy or anchovies as it is there as the salt component.

I had all these ingredients in the pantry when I made it as they are 'standards' for us.

Hope that clears it up a bit!

LOL - I just read it as fish sauce and didn't notice the fishy oil.  Have changed it to sauce.

The ingredients may not be unusual for you (or me) but lots of people would not have those in the pantry.

Like you Thermomixer, I also read it as fish sauce.
I made these for our lunch today, rushed in from shopping quite late so needed to get a move on with it. Used chicken tenderloins, snow peas and pineapple on the skewers. Only cooked them for 10 minutes because it is such a tender cut of meat and that was perfect.  Only had time to make the quick & easy Kraft satay sauce and it was just that and very tasty indeed. Heated some leftover rice in the steaming basket whilst the skewers cooked.  I only made 5 skewers - 3 for DH and 2 for me but I think I could have eaten another 2 myself (it was 2pm by this time though so I was pretty hungry).
For the quick satay sauce I used carnation evaporated milk with a few drops of coconut essence it it and only 1 tspn curry powder.  I loved it.

I made the satay dipping sauce last night to go with some purchased chicken skewers and we all loved it.
I used peanut butter, but will use peanuts next time and will also add a little brown sugar and reduce the fish sauce just a smidge.

Yes he did Thermomixer but he takes so long to eat his food that the satay sauce went cold and solid and he said the chicken was a bit dry.  Had he eaten it whilst it was hot, it was perfectly moist and the hot sauce beautifully runny.   With the medication he is on, all meats are 'too dry' for him so I don't take any notice of those comments anymore.  You can give him the best fillet steak cooked medium-rare and he will say it is too dry  :-)) :-))  Pity he can't get to really enjoy a good piece of meat anymore.  I give him a bowl of soup and tell him that can't possibly be too dry  ;D ;D  Gotta laugh, what else can we do ;)

Clayton (my Other Half,OH) absolutely loves satay sauce with chicken skewers. He is extremely fussy though & when I said I was making this he said "like the shops!" . Far out.. so I forged ahead, I left out the garlic, onion & corriander as he doesn't like these much. Also left out the lemon juice as I forgot it. Used 170g cashews (they're OH's favourite), then added all the rest. When I said it was ready to taste OH said "isn't the sauce warmed up"? So I heated it for 3min, 100deg, sp 1. While it was being devoured!!!!!!! I was told to cut the sesame oil next time but other than that best he has ever had.
Thankyou for posting this recipe, I loved it. :-* But if OH loved it also, it must be good. There isn't enough space on this forum to list what he will not eat. He wonders where our 2 & 1/2 year old Daughter gets her fussy eating from! Thanks to TMX though I am winning her back to my way of eating, veges & all.

I have some girls coming over for drinks and nibbles tonight.

I am making these, I have done the satay sauce and its really nice inf flavour, thinner than I thought but tasty. I followed the recipe to a tea. Now have to make up the kebabs.

I was lucky I had everything in the cupboards apart from peanuts - so a nice cheap sauce for me :)
