I must say this was dead easy!!! And fun to use my oven again for a night time meal. It's in the oven as I type so I'll report back with a photo if nothing too disastrous happens.  ;)

Can't wait.  I remember we used to do this when we were kids.  You could make the scroll type mixes to place on top to be "real" fancy.

It's my Lasagna dish - there were about 17 scones. The recipe called for a 6 cup rectangle dish. So yeah, pretty decent size and enough for lunch tomorrow. ;)

My little miss 9 (yesterday!!) hates spicy and can detect pepper in any small amount ate it all up. I did hear her say, "HMM there's pepper in here!" I put 1 teeny pinch in!! So I'd just gauge what spice they would like and leave the others out - it could be a really versatile recipe depending on what flavours you like in the mince. You could just add Italian herbs if that's what they are used to. :)

We had this last night and it was lovely. I reduced the cinnamon and allspice to just a pinch as we don't really like those spices in meat dishes. It made plenty, so we have lots of left overs.
The polenta 'scones' were a nice change.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

This looks like a good one for us to try. When I make any meat dishes, I made large amounts and freeze leftovers for the guys to use when I'm away, so don't often use herman for this.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
