Meganjane's Tasty Chutney.

I make a chutney that tastes just like Rosella. I have to make things that taste like the bought ones, or DH won't eat them! I make double quantity as we go through chutney like water. Here's a smaller quantity that would be fine to make in the TMX.
TASTY CHUTNEY
500g apples (or apples and pears)
500g tomatoes
500g onions
150g brown sugar
20g treacle
2 tsp whole pepper
120g sultanas
30g currants
250ml brown malt vinegar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp allspice
1 1/2 tsp dry mustard powder
1 1/2 tsp whole cloves
Place everything in TMX bowl and cook on Varoma, speed 2 - 3 for 1.5 hours. I haven't made it in TMX, so am just guessing!!

This is how farfallina made MJ's chutney.
Thought I'd post this too.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I made the tasty chutney today!!!
How did it come? Well... as it is supposed to, I guess
I've never had chutney before so I don't have anything, any standard at all, to compare with
It seemed good to me
I made tasty chutney recipe of MJ. Half amount!
I didn't have few ingredients so I improvised a bit
I hope I didn't do something wrong cos this is so foreign to me!
Thank you again for helping me out
I can finally try mince meat curry next week!
You need to tell me some more recipes though, where I can use my chutney
I have a full jar now!
I made it as below...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
250g onion
250g apple
250g tomatoes
75g sugar
15g grape molasses
1 tsp whole pepper
60g raisins
15g currants
120g cider vinegar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp curry
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cloves
Place quartered onions in TM bowl. Chop for 4 seconds on Speed 6
Peel apples, chop roughly, place in TM bowl
Cut the core out on the top of the tomatoes with a knife, remove the seeds, place in TM bowl
Chop speeding up from 2 to 5 for 2 seconds. Repeat for 3-4 times
Add all the rest of the ingredients. Cook for 1,5 hour at 100°C on Reverse/Speed 1

Thanks for moving this cookie, I hadn't followed up on that thread.
farfallina, the curry powder you added will make the chutney a little different but will certainly go well in JD's curry!
I forgot to add that if there is a little too much liquid, just thicken with cornstarch, rice or corn flour.

We finally tasted it after cooled down, with some bread, ham and cheese
We really liked it so i will be making it also in future
I added curry because I didn't have mustard powder. I saw that there was mustard, cinnamon, cloves... so I used curry instead
Next time I buy mustard powder
I didn't have much liquid. There was no need to thicken it. 1.5h cooking time has been quite enough I guess
Let me post the photo also here

you can also use real mustard ie dijon instead of the mustard power farfallina..i cant get it over here either so i just substitute real mustard and that seems to work out just fine!
its so yummy with cheese!! havent tried this chutney yet but it seems quite similar to the one my nan used to make without the spices though! yummmmy

I pretty well substitute either of these for the other at times hopefulcook so I can't see why not here in MJ's chutney.

Yep, you can sub golden syrup for treacle.
You don't have to use the full quota of sultanas. I think I did, but can't remember!

haha! I'm making this now but used the recipe that was in amongst the mince meat curry thread, it had the ingredients but not too many instructions and my bowl was overflowing by the time I got to half of the onions!! I had to tip out and do a bit of chopping half bowl at a time till I could fit everything in.
Then did the varoma temp speed 2 or 3 for the first 30 minutes and made one heck of a mess so I decided to get on here and see if it was in the condiment sections for comments and hints and tips. lol. should have done that first!!
