Thank goodness I bought DH a computer for his birthday
« on: June 23, 2010, 02:06:30 pm »
DH had a very old cumbersome computer set up in our very small third bedroom so I recently gave him a new laptop and small desk and set him up in the lounge room so that I could organise the third bedroom as a nice little room for our grand-children
to stay over,  DH only plays freecell on his computer and in time I had hoped to get him onto the internet to look at things which interest him.
However, tonight my computer went a bit haywire so I have come to his and installed my broadband application.  I had no real idea of what I was doing as a friend set mine up a couple of years ago but here I am, on the forum at least. Mine would not let me type a reply on the forum or email for some reason, it just went straight into "logging off" each time.  This one has a black keyboard and I am having trouble seeing anything.  I have a torch handy for when I can't find symbols etc. So, until I can get someone to look at mine, looks like we will be sharing this one. At least I know I will have it for a couple of hours in the morning and after 8pm at night so that's plenty of time to do what I want to do on here.  Might not be any photos for a while though.

Clever you Judy to get going on a unfamiliar computer.I would be totally lost if my laptop threw a wobbly.I have the backup of my DH and DS to sort my problems out.

Funny thing though, this morning my computer is working as normal.  I will never be able to figure out computers as long as I live  :P :P :P :P

Congratulations Judy.  Setting up the broadband was quite a feat. I would never have been able to even attempt that.

I think the thing with computers is to try and NOT understand them. I'm fine when they are working, otherwise absolutely useless. I felt so proud that I could plug a wireless internet thing into the USB on the netbook and use it- and that is a very , very minor thing. DH will not even use a computer. I think it is the understanding thing. He'll fiddle with cars etc for hours but loses his cool with a computer in milliseconds.

Clapping loudly Judy. Well done.  I agree that computers just do their own thing and we just have to go along with it. LOL!

Thanks for all the praise girls - I know we all have our problems and those who have computer whizzes still living at home, appreciate them whilst you can but don't let them do everything for you.  Get them to show you how to do it to prepare you for when they are no longer there to help out. I think you understand things a bit better if you do it yourself but under their guidance.   I just hope things continue the way that they are as I do prefer my computer to DH's but now I know I can set him up on the internet on his computer if he wants to do some browsing of his own.

Very true jd about getting to do things ourselves especially with computers. The thing I find the most frustrating is understanding computer language and because I don't do a process everyday I tend to forget how to go about it.
I'm glad to hear that your computer is up and going and everything is back to normal. It will be a piece of cake clearing out that bedroom compared to understanding computers.

Well done JD! Look how far you've come!

I'm a bit of a computer nerd, but my DH is absolutely computer illiterate. I've taught him to use the internet so he can check his shares.  I've switched from Windows to Linux, so he's a bit lost at the moment!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

No Chookie, I was typing an email and during that, it interrupted me with the logging off message and then it did the same if I tried to reply to a forum comment.  I'm positive I didn't do anything wrong, maybe it was just telling me it needed a rest  ;D ;D
