Spicy Beef and Corn Scone Cobbler frm Meat on the menu

I made this for lunch today as it is a chilly  :D 26 Celsius here is Cairns.

After making it exactly as in the recipe I decided, before I put it into the oven, that  it was spicy but bland for my palate so I added  fresh  ground dried birdseye chili to it. About a good tsp.

 I used a square dish but next time I would  go with a taller rectangle loaf type  pan.

There was plenty of the polenta scone mixture to put on top but not so much of the filling for a square pan.

Use lean beef and at least 600gms. You could easily add veggies for a one pan dinner.

I would make it again. Kids would love it. Very filling.

Oh heavens!!!  It is a lovely sunny day down here in Tassie and I've actually been outside sitting on the deck without my coat on.  It's a balmy 13 degrees here at the moment.  ;)

Don't neglect the sunscreen Chelsea. A bit cooler up here today so I am cooking a Beer Ass Duck on the BBQ. Must be down to 25 c. Time to get out the Sparkling Red. Enjoy your fine weather. :-)) :-))

I have just made this and while it was nice, my scones didn't rise like I thought they would  ???

Gretchen, how did your scones go?  I only had a square pan, so did have to be stingy with the mix to make it cover the beef...

No they didn't rise Caroline. I just took this to be a sort of corn bread cobbler topping. Still delish. I would  make it again adding veggies for the one dish meal. Did you like it?

Oh phew Gretchen, I thought I'd mucked it up!  I have only had a spoonful- am having it for lunch today :)  Have sent DH to work with it for his lunch too.  Review later!

I just made this tonight. I omitted the water (as I usually do on all Thermomix recipies!) and it came out perfect. I was fairly tame on the cayenne as my two year old was going to eat it but I found it to be really yum. It's REALLY filling with the scone topping. Hubby (who's a fussy ex-chef) ate it all up and said it was really nice. This one's made the regular rotation I think! I agree that you could easily add a few veggies. My little one LOVED it and ate two bowls (I mixed a little natural yoghurt through it incase it was too spicy). :

P.S. I had leftover scone mixure so I cooked them separately into little biscuits. My daughter loves them and it's a nice change from all those sweet biscuits that she usually wants!

I made this for our supper this evening.I'm not into very spicy food so I cut the cayenne down to 1/4 tsp. I couldn't  find any allspice in my cupboard so I used mixed spice instead.We really like the dish and the Corn Scone Cobbler was super but I did cut down on the amount of cheese in the Cobbler.

I tried this last night, and to be quite honest...it didn't blow me away. DD liked it, but I thought it was average. The mince mixture was very sloppy even though I only put 85g water in, and the corn scones were quite dryish. 1/4 tsp cayenne is sufficient for us. Probably wouldn't make it again, but we have leftovers so its on the menu again tonight   :D

Yumo! Made this tonight, and after reading everyone comments I added veggies - carrot, celery, zucchini, chili and mushrooms. Also added some TM tomato paste, Italian herbs and Worcestershire (not TM yet!) sauce.  I cut the cheese back to 200gms and didn't miss the extra 100gms the recipe calls for.

Tasted great! I had some leftovers reheated in the microwave today and it was still tasty.  I think it may well freeze OK too (at least I hope).
