Pizza Oven Recommendation
« on: July 14, 2010, 12:02:00 pm »
Hi All
I'm thinking of buying a Pizza Oven / Maker - a electrical one that fits on the bench. Any suggestions about what brand to buy or what to look out for.  Are they any good? Any feedback appreciated!

Dublin girl, I can only comment on the one I have, but from what I've heard beware of some of the cheapies out there. A person on another forum that I frequent bought one and said it was a load of rubbish, then bought the one I have and loves it.  A bit more expensive but works really good.  Here's a couple of links.  It's cheaper to buy from Kitchenware direct, but the other link gives more information.  Good luck.

I don't think they're worth it. I have one that did the job, but it only does pizza, nothing else. I don't like machines that have only one purpose.
On the other hand, I'd love an outdoor pizza oven - they cook awesome bread as well!
But, I guess if you're planning on making a lot of pizza, then the one JulieO recommends looks the best.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

DD won a pizza oven and we find it very good. I bought my brother a Breville one and found it very disappointing. I use it for Naan bread as well as pizzas.
Ours is the same as Julies.

I have the red one, and we love it!  Great for entertaining.  I bought 2 (one for a gift) and got KitchenWarehouse to do them for $110 each I think- and free shipping :)  Just rang and asked for a good price for 2 :D

I have the Breville one and that's probably why I'm not terribly impressed.

We've been given a slow combustion stove that we'll be putting out in our patio area. So, I'll be using that for bread and pizza, as well as roasts in summer! Just have to find 6 strong men to pick it up and bring it here!!

Hello Julie (my shopping guru  ;))
........I have been mulling over buying the black one.......just wondered what else you could cook in it?
It mentions omelettes, and wondered if there were other possibilities (focaccia's etc.) ?

When I first bought it, I tried a few things in there like frittata, even bacon & eggs and also chicken fillets on it, (comes with a few recipes) and it did them all adequately, but I have gone back to usual way of cooking these things, I  just wanted to try it.

Someone said on the other forum that the pizza stone on the 'red' one is permanently attached and therefore doesn't have handles to remove it.  I like the idea of being able to replace the stone if needed so on this alone I would buy the black one again, it's only $30 more.

If you end up getting one PM me and I will give you some tips  on the care of the stone etc.

Julie.

I don't think you will either Maddy. I love ours. I honestly don't think I could eat another type of pizza now. We make it a family affair. I prepare the dough and roll  it, also cut up whatever we're having on it. DD makes the toppings on the pizza and DH cooks them.

We'll be in big trouble. I guess I will either have to borrow it or buy my own. I suppose she will have the new one as I've used hers for so long now.

I have a Breville "Emporia". I am still trying to get a good result... don't think its the machine just me.
1.   I had made the TM pizza dough, and added the toppings etc. When I tried to put onto the stone, the dough was so floppy it fell apart.
2.  The cheese slips/slides off when I take it off the stone
3.   The cheese stuck to the stone, so I had to riinse it.  I thought I had dried it thoroughly on the bench, but when I went to use it, it had gone mouldy.  I rewashed it and put it back toheat, but now it smells awful
As I said it is me and not the machine!

I have the Breville one and so far havent had too much of a problem with it...its fairly effective for pizzas which is all Id use it for, hence why I didnt spend an extra $100 on the black one that does the extra stuff.  I got the Breville for $100 and so long as I dont have a lot of toppings on the pizza it does a good job
Im just a sucker for a kitchen gadget though!
