Here's a tip.

For potatoes, apples and others that turn brown when exposed to air, I have a bowl with acidulated water in the sink and have the cutter right next to the sink so the threads can go straight into the water.
Potatoes to be fried benefit from a good soak and rinse to remove as much starch as possible so they will crisp nicely.
When the oil is ready, I have a thick towel ready and remove a portion of the potato (or whatever) from the water, place it on one end of the towel and roll it firmly to express as much water as possible then immediately transfer it to the oil or place into the bird nest basked and place into the oil.

I don't recall if you have jicama (hic-a-ma) in Australia but it shreds nicely and makes a terrific addition to slaws and salads and I love it in gado gado, added after the cooked items and I also add it to a Waldorf type salad - the different texture livens up this old standard.

We have jicama (sometimes called yam bean here) and it is a crunchy little number that would be great on the slicer -thanks.

Getchen, you have far too much spare time on your hands  ;D ;D ;D ;D  It must be killing you having to wait so long for the winner to be announced.  I promise you this, if I win it I am going to send it up to you because no-one deserves it as much as you.  Guess I'd better put some more entries in aye?  In the meantime, are you working on your next idea  :D :D

Love the pics Jo, us Aussies have had our fair share of prizes from Helene's competitions haven't we  ;)

What a laugh you are, Gretchen!!  It's such a great little gadget, I think I'm going to have to buy one!   ;D  It would be so good for my raw vege pasta noodles!

Thanks JD, we had a lovely lazy time at the beach last week, and my new bag was really useful!  It's so big - fits heaps of stuff in it.  ;D

looks like he has a better idea than me !!!

I bought one for MrsT - the bigger model with slicer in vertical plane.  Might have to get Jaxon to send some ideas.

If I don't win it I may buy that one thermomixer.  Looks like a lot of fun.
