Win a Benriner slicer with Helene
« on: July 22, 2010, 05:13:20 am »
I have been having some fun with Helene on her Blog. I really would like to win this slicer and you too can have a go. Especially good for vegetarians and and special dieters.

The more the merrier.

If I can't win it I have found it on this web site I use often. Very good service and prices.

Oh my Gretchen! You are such fun  ;D :-)) :-* :D

Gretchen wants to win the prize so badly that she has even taken to submitting photos to improve her chances! I really DO hope you win Gretchen, for all the effort you're putting into this, but it IS a random draw so we shall see...

My fingers are crossed on your behalf  ;) , but don't hold your breath... :o

Hi Helene. I hope to get to your part of the world next year. (with a little bit of luck) I had a good laugh at Gretchen's photos and comments.

Gretchen, you are such a hoot.  I hope those who visit Helene's blog love you as much as we do here in Australia.  I'm sure you will end up with one of those gadgets one way or another - either winning it or buying it yourself. Good luck.

Ha - there are a few people on SuperKitchenMachine who would like to lessen Gretchen's chances... but I have my doubts. Gretchen seems pretty headstrong, single-minded and intent on getting this prize, but we shall see. Best part is, she keeps me thoroughly entertained! Yes, Gretchen, you are the definition of "a HOOT!"

WOO HOO HOO !!!  :D ;D :-*

Well if I don't win the Benriner I am really going to have to consider buying one as I cannot miss out on all that fun playing with raw vegetables. Just think what you could do with areally really big daikon radish!

If and when I take a trip back home, I'm going to have to catch up with Gretchen... I can always do with the laughs! ;)

Good luck with the competition Gretchen!  :-*

I've had one of these spiral "slicers" for years - it is great for raw foods, slaws and salads and certainly works well for steaming. (I don't have the Benriner - mine is a Bron and works in a horizontal position instead of vertical. It has a flat blade as well as two of the "julienne" blades so I can also make "ribbons" for garnishes and etc.)

However, I also use it a great deal for deep fried items.   The "threads" cook in seconds and because they are so thin, retain little of the oil.
I especially love sweet potatoes done this way.  Another favorite it celery root or celeriac - usually used mostly for soups and stews, the flavor is enhanced by this method of cooking.

It is amazing how one sweet potato can morph into an attractive "haystack" of crisp goodness.

I also have one of the bird nest fryer baskets and make all kinds of root vegetable "baskets" to fill with other things, the possibilities are endless.

MrsT has been at me for some time now to buy one. We had a delicious apple tart with roses made from strips of apple rolled into roses.  Also like you, the fried baskets are great fun too with shredded veg
