Baking trays & pans
« on: August 03, 2010, 07:00:49 am »
I think I'm lacking in this department lol.

How many do you have & which sizes/types get the most use?

Many thanks

I've got too many rubyslippers  :-)) :-)) - whenever I see some of the beautiful creations on this forum, I head out to buy the tin I need to replicate it.  Lately I have bought the heart shaped cake tin, the rectangular, fluted, loose bottomed tart tin and the madeleine trays.  I have 4 sets of muffin tins (2 are silicone), 4 different sized lamington/slice type trays and other tins I've had for many years.  My drawer is bursting at the seams.  Basically I think I could get away with the muffin trays, couple of different sized cake tins (one being a springform tin for cheesecakes) and a couple of different sized slice pans.  It is nice though to have a choice and if you just pick one up here and there you will find one day, like me, you have heaps  ;D ;D  I do like the non-stick ones too.

I'm like Judy, I have way too many. I simply go and buy them as I need them. The only one I have bought recently would be the mini-muffin pan. I would say that a slice tray, 20cm cake tin/s, muffin tin and flat trays for biscuits are a necessity. I inherited heaps from my Mum too like heart shape tins and a horseshoe tin with the indentation in the bottom.

Rubyslippers, look at what you want to make and buy the tins.

Apart from my very good bread tins I have to borrow all the others from the neighbours. Of course they get something nice in return.

Rubyslippers,  buy them as you need them,  but don't buy any that are too thin.   The one I use most at the moment I paid $2.50 for at Aldi.

Ho ho. I write to the mananger of Aldi in Queensland every year and beg for one up here. Every year he writes a very polite letter back saying no. Too  far from a distrubution centre.  Pity. We don't even have a decent deli up here.

In my experience if you want a decent bread tin you should buy it at a bakery suppliers or similiar. Mine have never been oiled or washed and they never stick. Cost about $30 but worth it.

I have the Tupperwear Bread Loaf Silicone Form and really like that for making my Thermo Bread. I have also just bought 12 Silicone Cup Cake Pattys. They are really good for making steamed cakes or puddings in the Varoma. I am going to have a go at converting the Lemon Coconut puddings to a chocolate recipe coz I’m not a big fan of coconut.

P.S. What is Aldi??? Should I be stamping my feet too?? ???

JulieO's suggestion from the CINDI'S CINNAMON ROLLS topic http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2090.0
Quote
What I usually do  when making scrolls, is split the syrup between 3 square 20cm tins and put 4 unbaked scrolls into each tin, cover them well in plastic wrap and before the second  rise I will pop 2 of the tins in the freezer leaving just 4 scrolls left to rise again and then bake.
was what got me thinking about trays.  I don't have any square tins, but thinking if a lot of people said they were useful I would get some  :).  I've been using my pizza trays for a lot of things.

From your list I have the Tupperware silicone muffin form, and a mini muffin tray, one springform cake tin (18 months since I last used it to make icecream cake), one slice pan and the Tupperware slice form.  So I think I might need a round and a square cake tin?

This sounds like a great idea.

I do have an Aldi - but it sounds like I under appreciate it!

Thank you all for your input.   :)

For those who don't have Aldi in their state.   It is a German owned supermarket that stocks a limited number of items.   It is generally agreed that if you do your grocery shopping at Aldi you save about 1/3 of your weekly bill.  I shop at Aldi about once a month.   I buy staples,  like sugar, flour, washing liquid and chocolate.  I never buy their cheese or meat.  The cheese is not of the standard that we eat and the meat is as expensive as any Supermarket   The chocolate is imported, and is mostly Swiss. The things I like about it are that they have a policy of reducing additives to the products that are Australian made.  They also sell electrical items ,  clothing, cooking  dishes ,but these are not on regular offer.
