Recipe Review-Chicken with Prunes from Meat on the Menu

Recipe Name: Chicken with Prunes
Book Name: Meat on the Menu
Tweaking details:
I didn't have a chilli so used half a teaspoon of sambal olek
I slipped and put 190 of water
I used (shock horror) 2 massel chicken stock cubes
500g of chicken thighs cut to about 2cm cubes
Review: Very tasty
The family enjoyed it including the kids. I found it was cooked in about 18 mins but the pieces of chicken were quite small. I would have added the prunes half way through as they broke down quite a bit. I steamed some broccoli and added it to the server after the meal was cooked and served it on rice. I think you could do one and a half or even double the recipe, however it fed two adults and two kids under 4 with a small amount left over for DH to take to work for lunch.

Thanks for the review Megan (nice to see you back on the boards) - it does look a very easy recipe.

This was one of the first recipes we made from the MOM cookbook, and DH made this on his first (and unsupervised) experience with the TM. He did make the comment that I would need to make more TM vege stock concentrate as the jar had nearly run out
(couldn't understand why, as I had only just knocked up a new batch) and low and behold he had poured in some obscene amount as he had misread it. Talk about salt overload... was virtually inedible... well inedible. I made it a couple of weeks later, and it was lovely and we'll make it again. Very, very easy too.

Thanks JD I have been reading but not posting. I thought I would try something different and it has been ages since I have done a review

Made recipe x 1.5. Tasty and very easy, will make again. Used apple juice instead of wine as I didn't have an open bottle. Served with rice.

Made this last night and was a hit with the family (yay!!). This one is a keeper for us as I always have these ingredients in my kitchen
Served with rice and steamed veg which I cooked after the chicken. Just popped the chicken into the Thermoserver while the rice and veg were cooking
4.5/5 for us for flavour, and ease
p.s. I made double batch, it fit in the TMX but was at capacity and as such some of the chicken got mashed up. I think I would stick to just 1.5 time the recipe

Just wanted to add my endorsement of this recipe.
Not being a big fan of prunes, I almost skipped over this one but decided it looked so simple I would give it a try anyway. Well everyone absolutely loved it, including my 14 month old son who wanted seconds! I also served it with rice and vegies which I cooked whilst chicken was in thermoserver but you could easily serve it with mashed potato or even couscous.
The only tweak I would make is that when using the chicken thighs, I found mine were cooked nicely after 15 minutes rather than the 30 that is stated in the book.
Definitely a 5/5 from us!

Tried this for the first time. Thanks for the inspiration, Meagan. Prunes weren't dominating. Sauce was rich and had a lovely deep colour. "Nice, different, unusual."

I tried this recipe tonight with my family. I added and extra 50ml white wine, which gave a great serving sauce. Loved the flavours.

I made this tonight, very nice and will make again. I didn't have white wine so used juice from half small lemon and water. I put the butterfly in and cooked reverse speed 1 (for 15 min instead of half hour as per Asha's suggestion), I find using the butterfly good to prevent meat getting caught in blades and cut it fairly large too. I added a cup of frozen peas at the last minute and these cooked through when resting in thermoserver. Will try increasing recipe next time so we have more leftovers. Yum, I like the way the prunes break down to a sauce!
