Orange or Citrus Juice
« on: September 10, 2010, 12:56:06 pm »
Hi there, My TMX arrived yesterday Yay! So I tried to make orange juice this morning - disaster, Just orange pulp / mush.

Who's worked out how to get juice out of an orange with TMX? I would love to achieve 100% orange juice, no water, no sugar.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Congrats on your purchase. :)

Adding ice to juices makes them lovely and smooth (although often they still don't taste like the bottled varieties). Blending at speed 10 also helps.  You can also use your rice basket as a strainer to remove some of the pulp.  I know you don't want to use water but I think the best way would be to blend peeled oranges with ice cubes (on speed 8 for about 30 seconds), add some water and blend for another minute on speed 10.

Good luck experimenting.

I blend 1 orange and what ever else (equiv to 2 other pces of fruit) with 8 lge ice cubes on speed 9 for 1 minute then add 300 ml of water through the lid while it is still going and let it go for about 10 seconds. SMOOTH :) only way my lot will drink it  :o :o

Might take some practice and playing until you find the way you like it. So worth it though. It will never taste like shop stuff as it has nothing in it - no extra sugar, flavour etc

mine are into orange, pineapple and strawberry at the moment.

Thanks faffa_70,
I assume you're peeling the orange first ??

I quartered several oranges and tossed the lot into TMX. Think I've got to get those skins off. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.  I've had some great learning from my disasters in the thermomix.  In fact I made a salad or two that could have been juice before I learnt restraint.

I follow an approach similar to faffa's.  I look at the water as hydration by stealth.

I sometimes put a mint and the spinach we grow in.  Provided I have enough mint the kids don't bat an eyelid and they have had their greens.

You don't have to peel them but much smoother and less bitter if you do  ;) ;)

I agree. I don't like the taste with peel  on.

IMO its best when you have no white pith on your citrus fruits

I will never forget when my friends hubby made an orange sorbet and included whole oranges (peel, pith and all).  It was inedible!  ;D ;D ;D

Yet you can use whole oranges in Trudy's muffin recipe and they are delicious.

Interestingly, when I turned on the TV for DD today "The Circle" was on and a naturopath or dietician was on and she said that we should eat the pith as (a) it is full of fibre and (b) it is also full of bioflavenoids which helps our bodies assimilate the vitamin C

she did forewarn that it is bitter though  ;) ;) ;D

faffa I am loving your orange juice method.  We are making it a lot atm with 2 oranges watermelon and pineapple, and making icypoles from it too.  It seems so easy now that I am doing it, but I never really enjoyed my earlier attempts so I was glad to see this post.
